Rumors about Matt Reeves’ planned sequel to “The Batman” are swirling due to Robert Pattinson’s schedule becoming unexpectedly packed. The actor has agreed to star in Christopher Nolan’s film “The Odyssey,” where he might play Hermes, if the rumors are correct. Furthermore, there have been whispers that Pattinson will take on a substantial role in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming project “Dune 3,” an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel “Dune Messiah.” These projects have sparked concerns among fans of “The Batman” due to the film’s delays.
38-year-old British actor Robert Pattinson rose to fame following his performances in the Harry Potter and Twilight series, subsequently demonstrating his versatile acting abilities through films like Good Time, The Lighthouse, and providing voiceovers for Studio Ghibli’s English version of The Boy and the Heron. Recently, his sci-fi movie Mickey 17 moved to streaming platforms after a lackluster run in cinemas. Among his upcoming projects, Pattinson has more films in post-production, including Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama, which features Dune actress Zendaya.
The Batman Part 2’s Cancelation Rumors Soar After Robert Pattinson’s Filming Schedule Boosts
According to recent rumors, Robert Pattinson may take on the villainous character Scytale in Dune 3. While this role is significant within the storyline, there’s no official confirmation of his casting yet. After breaking the news on Deadline, Justin Kroll clarified a few details about Pattinson’s busy schedule to alleviate concerns about scheduling conflicts with The Batman Part 2. Kroll confirmed that Dune 3 will start filming this summer. Since Dune 3 is an ensemble movie like The Odyssey, Robert Pattinson’s screen time would be limited, allowing him to also work on The Batman Part 2 when it goes into production.
After the postponement of Reeves’ planned sequel to 2027, Pattinson humorously commented that he would be too old when filming for The Batman Part 2 commences. However, earlier statements suggested production would start at year-end, which might mean that the summer and fall of 2025 could be available for Pattinson to finish his work in The Odyssey and film Dune 3, should he get the rumored role. Fans of Batman have been anxious due to a release date delay, as well as DC Studios head James Gunn’s acknowledgement that Reeves had yet to complete the script for Part 2.
Robert Pattinson’s interpretation of Batman takes place within DC Studios’ Elseworlds timeline, which is intended to be distinct from the primary universe created by James Gunn. This means that despite Alan Ritchson’s claim that he would play Batman for free, the hunt for DC’s main Caped Crusader continues. Among the names often mentioned in fan discussions are Brandon Sklenar from “1923” and Jensen Ackles from “The Boys,” both of whom have lent their voices to Batman in animated series like “Batman: The Long Halloween” and “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.
The Batman Part 2 is currently scheduled to release on October 1, 2027.
