In the game Blue Prince, running out of steps is nearly equivalent to designing your last space and finding yourself without any further paths to traverse. Even when circumstances seem favorable and your supplies are plentiful, it’s a loss if you can’t progress any further due to lack of steps.
At heart, Blue Prince is a game that follows roguelike structure. With each playthrough, the layout varies, and numerous aspects are randomly generated. Skill development comes from repeated plays and mastering the intricate mechanics, which Blue Prince has executed exceptionally well – earning it widespread praise within the indie gaming community.
After a few hours into the game, you might still be craving for more strategies. That’s when I step in to offer advice and tactics, having learned from my own challenging experiences.
How to Get More Moves in Blue Prince
You have the option to create fresh layouts for earning additional steps, and you can reshuffle these designs by re-rolling. Steps can be gained from Constellations, some items in your inventory increase the number of steps you earn, and consuming Fruit is effective too.
Constellations
One of Blue Prince’s many chambers is known as The Observatory. Inside, you can find and adjust the telescope to gaze at the sky. There’s a possibility of receiving a reward, boosting your Steps count by +3, for example.
As a starry-eyed admirer, it appears that fortune decides the constellation you’re assigned, yet master the spinning game and collect your well-deserved prize!
Draft Rooms
The main feature of Blue Prince involves selecting rooms as you progress through your journey, each time you interact with a suitable door. Some rooms grant additional Steps to you.
In the nursery, they’ve set these conditions for me: Every time you design a Bedroom, you’ll earn 5 Advancements. Additionally, when you first enter a Bedroom, you’ll receive a one-time bonus of 10 Advancements.
Eat Fruit
In Blue Prince, fortunately, there’s no hunger or starvation gauge. Instead, food is strategically placed throughout Mt. Holly. I’ve accumulated an excess of bananas in the pantry as a step bonus, and under specific circumstances, meals can materialize in the dining room. The kitchen offers a diverse selection of dishes for purchase with coins.
Tasty treats include Bananas, Club Sandwiches, and Tomato Soup.
Inventory Items
Scattered across the structure are assorted useful items, akin to traditional roguelike games where these items aren’t static; they shift positions from game to game, ensuring a challenge.
Using the Sleep Mask in each room for the first time awards you 5 steps. Although it might appear insignificant, these extra steps could be crucial in determining whether or not you succeed, given that you have multiple rooms to explore.
Check every room you go in, and never let complacency seep in!
Redraw Floorplans
Ultimately, it’s advisable to embark on a quest to discover every nook and cranny and solve each puzzle chamber. This increases your chances of acquiring the Ivory Dice. The item functions in this way: “During drafting, you can employ [Ivory Dice] to generate fresh layouts.
Essentially, rolling over a trio of rooms provides you with fresh rooms, each having the possibility to introduce completely novel advantages and circumstances. This could serve as an escape route in challenging scenarios or present additional opportunities through additional moves.
What do Steps do in Blue Prince? Moves Explained
Steps are a form of currency allowing you to enter a new area in Blue Prince.
When I talk about “area,” it means that “steps” could also be useful when exploring outdoors. Remember to stroll around Mt. Holly, keeping an eye out for hidden corners, cozy nooks, and mysterious pathways.
Generally speaking, Steps refer to the sequence of actions required for you to explore multiple rooms in search of the enigmatic Room 46. Every time you enter a fresh area or room, the counter at the top-left corner decreases by one. Initially, when you begin playing, you might not notice this as you’re engrossed in learning the game’s mechanics and nuances.
An important point to remember is that when you venture into a new zone, you typically take a step back unless there’s an extra bonus specified. However, stepping foot in older zones will also cost you steps. Consequently, if you discover something on the western side of Mt. Holly and later find out it needs to be used on the eastern side (or vice versa), you’ll end up using a considerable amount of steps.
Choose your path wisely.
