NEW: Surgent Studios is ‘Still Cooking’ Project Uso Outside of Pocketpair Deal

In October 2024, Surgent Studios presented Project Uso – an ambitious RPG featuring choice-driven gameplay and beat-’em-up elements. However, prior to this announcement, the studio had entered into a partnership with Pocketpair Publishing. As part of the agreement, they have committed to developing a horror game, details about which are still kept under wraps.

I ran into Abubakar Salim, the creator of Surgent, at the BAFTA Game Awards in London. The latest news about their partnership stirred some thoughts in me regarding Project Uso. I wondered if they were still developing it, as it caught my attention when it was first revealed several months back.

‘The Universe is Still Alive’

In February 2024, Project Uso – an expansion of Tales of Kenzera: Zau – was warmly welcomed by audiences. Back then, I had the privilege of conversing with Abubakar about the heartfelt inspiration for this visually stunning and emotionally engaging game.

It has been made clear to me that Surgent Studios intends to establish a vibrant multiverse centered on the story of Tales of Kenzera.

During our conversation at the BAFTA Game Awards, I inquired about Project Uso, wondering if it was still being developed.

The project is still under development. My approach seems to be creating elements that will contribute to future games, one after another.

The process continues, for the universe remains active, and that’s incredibly thrilling. There are many other playfields to explore too.

One factor motivating us to unveil Uso was our deep-seated enthusiasm for the game, as it’s not common for developers to work on a project with such passion, keeping their progress a secret to see how things unfold.

There are aspects of the game that we’re yet to finalize and explore fully. It’s a grand, highly ambitious project, and we have lofty goals for its development.

Last night at the BAFTA Games Awards, I was thrilled to witness Abubakar Salim grace the stage to accept the accolade for Game Beyond Entertainment – an honor that beautifully encapsulates the essence of Tales of Kenzera: Zau.

I can hardly contain my enthusiasm! I’m on the edge of my seat, waiting impatiently for any updates about Project Uso from Surgent. Keep your eyes peeled!
