In a simple and natural way: Anime frequently stirs deep emotions in viewers, particularly through the intricate dynamics between fathers and sons. It’s quite rare to see anime characters with involved fathers, and when they do have one, he’s often less caring, supportive, or reliable.
Despite not being traditional fathers, some of them exhibit strong paternal traits – they’re compassionate and nurturing. They’re present when their sons require support. Their influence on their sons significantly molds the trajectory of their lives and often plays a crucial role in the progression of the series.
10. Kazuma Sohma And Kyo Sohma
Fruits Basket
In the captivating world of Fruits Basket, I’ve observed a heart-wrenching tale unfold for the character, Kyo. Born under the cat zodiac curse, he was shunned and despised by his biological father. However, fate had something different in store for him. Kazuma, who stepped into his life, embraced him warmly, providing a nurturing home where Kyo finally found acceptance. Through Kazuma’s kindness and regard, Kyo was granted a genuine dwelling that resonated with love and respect.
Since Kazuma had himself felt the solitude that comes with the cat zodiac curse, he helped Kyo develop overall and provided support for him. Over time, their connection became as deep and enduring as a parent-child bond born of biology.
9. Whitebeard And His Sons
One Piece
In the “One Piece” series, Whitebeard was revered as the world’s “most powerful man.” Leading the vast Whitebeard Pirates, he had a deep desire for a large family due to his own orphaned past. Consequently, he took in numerous pirates and cared for them as if they were his “offspring.
Whitebeard nurtured a strong affection for his offspring, offering them counsel and wisdom along the way. He fostered their abilities and established circumstances that allowed them to develop further. Additionally, he ensured fairness among his children, thereby earning their unwavering loyalty.
8. Byakuya Ishigami And Senku
Dr. Stone
As an onlooker, it’s clear that Byakuya Ishigami is a devoted father, deeply invested in the success and well-being of his son, Senku, from the captivating series Dr. Stone. His unwavering support extends to extraordinary lengths, as he sacrificed his prized possession – his car – to amass the necessary resources for Senku’s scientific pursuits.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Byakuya placed absolute trust in Senku’s abilities. Not even the shocking revelation that Earth had been petrified could shake his belief that Senku possessed the strength and intelligence needed to endure such an ordeal.
7. Shiro Fujimoto & Yukio Okumura
Blue Exorcist
Shiro Fujimoto acted as the father figure for both Yukio and Rin. He had a special bond with each of them, but since Yukio seemed more reliable, Shiro imparted knowledge to him. Interestingly, Shiro was a priest and an exorcist who was supposed to eliminate Yukio and Rin as they were believed to be the offspring of Satan. However, he couldn’t bring himself to harm them and instead, he locked away their supernatural abilities instead.
In my heart, I adored those lads beyond measure, yearning only for their well-being. I was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for Rin, giving up my life when possessed, by wounding myself with a stab. The wisdom that Yukio has gained from my late son, Shiro, is immeasurable, yet it’s overshadowed by his loss.
6. Kozuki Oden And Momonosuke
One Piece
Kozuki Oden was an unconventional individual, yet harbored a unique affection for his kin. His devotion to family was manifested in his deeds and selfless acts, going as far as making every effort to safeguard them until the final moment.
Kozuki Oden was a loving father to his son, Momonosuke. He battled tirelessly to ensure his son would live in a world free from tyranny. He instilled courage and strength within him. Despite moments of self-doubt, the spirit of his father propelled Momonosuke to grow stronger.
5. Dai Might & Might Guy
Naruto
Guy from Konoha is among its most powerful ninjas, and it’s clear that this prowess wouldn’t have been possible without the support of his father, Dai Guy. Despite holding a lowly Genin rank, Dai Guy was an incredibly strong and devoted father.
In his role as a father, he instilled in his son the values of hard work and dedication, which proved crucial during Might Guy’s training since he wasn’t exceptionally talented in ninja skills. Despite being relatively insignificant in the ninja world, as a father, he was nothing short of extraordinary.
4. Thors & Thorfinn
Vinland Saga
The bond between Thors and Thorfinn offers a poignant illustration of a father’s enduring affection. Once a formidable warrior, Thors renounced the battlefield to nurture his son, Thorfinn, and enjoy tranquility with his family. This noble sacrifice speaks volumes about Thors’ profound love for Thorfinn.
At a tender age, Thorfinn witnessed his father give up his own life for him. This experience has given him an intimate comprehension of the selfless acts his father undertook in his behalf. Some might perceive this as him expressing profound gratitude for the love and security his father bestowed upon him.
3. Soma & Joichiro
Food Wars!
In the world of “Food Wars,” the duo, Joichiro and Soma Yukihira, portrays a more common father-son bond. Joichiro is a pivotal figure in the series, serving not only as an entertaining character but also as an inspiring role model for his son. Together, they manage the Yukihira Diner. One of the factors that make Joichiro an exceptional father is his exceptional culinary abilities. Renowned as a master chef, his skills are unparalleled, fueling Soma’s ambition to match his father’s greatness in the kitchen.
Joichiro always believes in his son’s abilities, regardless of obstacles. He provides him with adequate guidance to help him thrive in the culinary field.
2. Shikaku & Shikamaru Nara
Naruto
In the Naruto series, Shikaku Nara, Shikamaru’s father, serves as a commendable model of an exceptional parent. Unlike several other fathers in Naruto, Shikaku actively participated in Shikamaru’s life. He was aware of his son’s abilities and shortcomings, providing him with guidance tailored to his unique traits.
He frequently spent meaningful moments with Shikamaru, engaging in shogi games together and offering counsel whenever needed. His guidance played an essential role in readying Shikamaru to assume a leadership position. Additionally, during times of grief, he provided comfort and support, helping his son come to terms with the loss of a mentor figure.
1. Isshin Kurosaki And Ichigo
Bleach
In an atypical yet strong manner, Ichigo and Isshin shared a profound bond, residing under the same roof with Ichigo’s siblings. Isshin genuinely cares for his son, but often bothers and irritates him. However, despite this seeming annoyance, Ichigo holds a deep affection and reliance on his father.
Initially, Isshin was a spirit guardian, and when Ichigo adopted this role, Isshin took on the task of training Ichigo to grow stronger. Their bond runs deep, although they don’t always express it conventionally; instead, they often engage in friendly sparring matches and share a playful camaraderie.
