Summary
- ExtraEmily, part of One True King, streamed herself seemingly driving through a red light.
- Fans have responded to the incident with anger online.
ExtraEmily, a well-known streamer and part of the Texas media group One True King, recently broadcasted a live video where it appears she ran a red light. ExtraEmily often shares such traffic mishaps on Twitch, but this recent event has left many viewers disappointed.
Starting from 2020, known as ExtraEmily (real name Emily Xuechun Zhang), has been developing diverse real-world content on streaming and video platforms. In 2021, she was recognized as a Twitch partner. One True King officially brought ExtraEmily under their brand in January 2023, and just two months later, she received a nomination for Best IRL Streamer at The Streamer Awards. She was the most-nominated streamer at the 2024 event, where she also co-hosted the red carpet ceremony.
However, ExtraEmily’s two-year tenure with OTK hasn’t been free of controversies related to traffic incidents. One such instance was when she was temporarily banned from Twitch, and a more recent stream has contributed to this list. Around the 37.5-minute mark of her latest Twitch stream, while en route to an Austin Barbie-themed cafe, ExtraEmily approached a red light and repeated “ooh” and “uhh,” seemingly ignoring it. A few seconds later, she drove through the light without appearing to slow down her vehicle. A brief clip of this stream showing the potential traffic offense has been posted on Twitter by Dexerto, and the response has been largely critical. One top-rated comment reads, “That’s not cute, it’s just extremely illegal and risky.
ExtraEmily’s Twitch-Streamed Traffic Violation Draws Negative Attention
Initially, it seemed like ExtraEmily was driving alone and utilized a hands-free device for her phone, as she frequently switched between displaying her face and the road ahead. Just before a traffic light turned green, she switched to the road view and stopped almost instantly at another traffic light soon after, returning the camera focus to her face and saying, “No worries, this happens often.” She then mentioned that Austin’s traffic lights are unusually lengthy, explaining that she usually drives through them. In September 2023, an online broadcast witnessed ExtraEmily being involved in a minor collision; however, in that instance, she was stationary at a red light when another driver rear-ended her car.
Apart from the known traffic mishaps on her Twitch channel, there have been other documented traffic incidents involving ExtraEmily as well. For instance, during a visit to New York City in July 2024, ExtraEmily collided with a stationary police car while riding a rental bicycle, overtaking another cyclist on her right side. This incident, along with others, has caused some discontent among her fans.
