This article contains MAJOR spoilers for Arcane.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that this year will see the official debut of 2XKO, featuring an initial roster of 10 champions hailing from League of Legends, each with their distinctive skill sets. Riot Games has been broadening the League of Legends IP and venturing beyond the MOBA genre. For them, 2XKO represents a foray into the dynamic world of fighting games.
2XKO’s champions draw inspiration from their initial League of Legends concepts, and characters such as Jinx and Ekko bear a striking resemblance to their Arcane counterparts. The popular animated series, Arcane, has altered several narrative elements in League of Legends lore and refreshed various characters, which were then integrated into the game. Given 2XKO’s strong association with League of Legends, it is possible that future character designs could be impacted by Arcane as well.
2XKO Could Feature New Character Designs From Arcane
The game League of Legends features a broad universe that is broken down into regions rich in lore, however, Riot Games has made several changes to these regions over the past decade, often referred to as retcons. At one stage, the story of Arcane was separated from the League of Legends universe; this separation was later reversed for simplification purposes. Consequently, League of Legends not only developed skins inspired by Arcane but also revamped champions such as Viktor and LeBlanc based on their appearances in the series, and eventually redesigned them accordingly.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to see that the lineup in 2XKO includes some familiar favorites like Ahri, Yasuo, Braum, and more. What truly excites me is the hint dropped by Riot Games, showing Jinx and Ekko with their Arcane-inspired looks in a recent trailer. This suggests that this fighting game might eventually incorporate League of Legends champions with refreshed designs, such as Viktor and Warwick, in the future!
Playable 2XKO Characters So Far
- Ahri
- Braum
- Darius
- Ekko
- Illaoi
- Jinx
- Yasuo
In Season 2 of Arcane, Viktor is portrayed as one of the main adversaries who undergoes a powerful transformation to assume the role of a messianic figure in the eyes of his followers. This evolution in the series later serves as Viktor’s new default skin within League of Legends. Interestingly, Warwick, a large wolf-like character from the game, is shown to be none other than the resurrected Vander in Arcane. The redesign of Warwick in the series has caused quite a fuss because his face now appears human rather than the wolfish visage that longtime fans are accustomed to. Despite League of Legends opting not to change Warwick’s default skin, Teamfight Tactics introduced an Unbound Warwick Tactician for the “Into the Arcane” collection instead.
While it’s yet to be verified by 2XKO whether Viktor and Warwick will join the team, the prospect of them adding a new dynamic to battles is certainly intriguing. If included, Viktor might take on a mage role with long-range attacks similar to Ahri, while Warwick could become a formidable brawler. Furthermore, 2XKO may also introduce other characters from Arcane, such as LeBlanc who has received a fresh League of Legends model, as well as Ambessa Medarda and Mel Medarda.
Arcane Skins Could Be 2XKO’s Potential Money-Maker
As a passionate fan, it’s fascinating to note that much like other action-packed games, 2XKO boasts an array of alternate character skins. What makes this stand out is the inclusion of familiar League of Legends skins such as the vibrant Pool Party Set. With that said, I can only imagine how exhilarating it would be if they introduced Arcane skins to 2XKO, like the Arcane Fractured Jinx and Arcane Brawler Vi (should she join the ranks of official 2XKO units).
Indeed, it’s important to note that most likely, around two times the number of players will need to buy the skins in 2XKO. The specific prices for individual skins or bundles are yet to be revealed, but many hope they won’t have to pay a high price for them. Given League of Legends’ past controversies over expensive skins and rare skins acquired through a gacha system, fans have been cautious about any recent transactions. On the other hand, 2XKO could potentially strike it rich with Arcane-inspired skins and other cosmetics that could make matches more visually appealing.
