Metro 2033 Redux Free On Steam

If you’re tired of delving into the aftermath of a nuclear disaster in northern Ukraine, let me propose another intriguing scenario – a Russia decimated by a full-scale nuclear conflict. Instead of deadly anomalies and dangerous mutants, you might encounter chaos and destruction; instead of anarchists, perhaps survivors struggling to rebuild their world. The term “stalker” still applies as you navigate this post-apocalyptic landscape.

4A Games is giving you an opportunity, free of charge, to witness firsthand the inexpressible terrors of a nuclear catastrophe, but only if you act swiftly.

For the next few days, the creators of Metro 2033 Redux are giving it away for free on Steam. The offer lasts until Wednesday at 11:00 Eastern Time.

What Is Metro 2033 Redux About?

Metro 2033, launched in 2010 by Ukrainian developers at 4A Games, is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novel with the same name. Many members of the core development team had previously worked on the successful 2007 game STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl before leaving.

Following a nuclear catastrophe in 2013 caused by global superpowers, it was only those Moscow residents who had sought refuge within the extensive subterranean system of the city who managed to survive.

In the passage of time, about twenty years, what’s left of humanity is dwindling as mutations, diseases, and internal conflicts take their toll. You embody Artem, a resident of VDNKh station, who is striving to protect his home from a recently emerged sickness.

In contrast, although both Metro 2033 and Fallout feature comparable themes such as nuclear destruction and a largely depopulated world, Metro 2033 presents a significantly more somber and grim atmosphere compared to Fallout.

The game isn’t particularly comical, and the creators successfully conveyed the message that a casual stroll through the underworld can lead to an abrupt, undignified demise.

In essence, the environment and feel in Metro is more akin to STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl compared to its subsequent installments, given that the main development team had already departed from the company by the time it was launched.

In 2013, when Metro: Last Light was released, the Metro 2033 Redux edition updated its gameplay using a more advanced version of the 4A Engine.

The sequel to the game, titled Metro Exodus (released in 2019), is followed by another installment, Metro Awakening (scheduled for release in 2024). This upcoming game has been highly praised as one of the top VR games that have hit the market so far.

Previously this year, the Ukraine division of 4A Games underwent a split and rebranded as Reburn. This dynamic team is preparing to launch the sci-fi shooter La Quimera on April 25th, in collaboration with renowned Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn.

4A Games Limited, the company’s team based in Malta, has announced in March that they are working together with Dmitry Glukhovsky on a brand-new mainline Metro game.
