Twitch Extends Deadline for Exporting Highlights and Uploads

On social media platform Twitch, they have extended the deadline for content creators to import their Highlights and Uploads that exceed a proposed 100-hour limit. This new limit will be implemented on May 19 instead of April 19. Furthermore, Twitch is providing streamers with additional tools to export any affected Highlights and Uploads at risk of deletion on May 19. These tools include improved download speeds and bulk export options for better convenience.

During a hectic period for the Amazon-owned streaming service, Twitch unveiled updates regarding Highlights and Uploads. In February, Twitch declared that as of now, new channels could gain Bits from viewers and receive subscriptions, a privilege previously limited to Twitch Affiliates and Partners. This alteration would also enable these new channels to garner ad revenue, in line with Twitch’s monetization strategy. However, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy made it clear that the shift regarding Bits and subscriptions wouldn’t be implemented until sometime in 2025, leaving content creators in limbo for more details.

Following the announcement of a 100-hour limit on Highlights and Uploads, Twitch has extended the deadline for deletion by a month. Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 19, Twitch users now have until Monday, May 19, to download and save any affected videos due to this extension. To make the process easier, Twitch has also boosted its download speeds, allowing users to export their desired content more efficiently.

Twitch Extends Highlight and Upload Export Deadline to May 19

Apart from choosing, users now have the option to export and download up to 100 videos simultaneously, an increase from the previous limit of 20. Twitch announced that these changes will be implemented by April 14th, providing users with five weeks until the deadline to save any affected Highlights or Uploads that will be deleted post-deadline. Content creators may then transfer their exported Twitch videos to YouTube to potentially earn additional ad revenue if eligible. Twitch also emphasized that the automatic deletion of certain Highlights and Uploads is a single occurrence, and users will not be able to exceed 100 hours once the changes are fully implemented this year.

The streaming platform made clear that custom Twitch Clips and saved broadcasts (VODs) won’t be impacted by the 100-hour restriction. Since less than half a percent of broadcasters have more than 100 hours of uploads on Twitch, it remains to be seen how this new deadline will influence continued efforts to preserve remarkable moments.
