If you are a renowned actor with multiple Academy Awards under your belt, known for leading blockbusters spanning genres like modern sci-fi masterpieces and Marvel films, then it seems that you have considerable freedom to pursue any cinematic endeavor that catches your interest.
The terrifying duo of The Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions continues to produce one horror sensation after another following their merger in 2024. Their collaborative efforts have resulted in releases such as “Night Swim”, “‘Salem’s Lot”, and “The Monkey”. Unwilling to slow down, they have lined up an impressive slate of upcoming films for this year including “M3GAN 2.0”, “The Conjuring: Last Rites”, and “Mortal Kombat II” along with “SOULM8TE” and the next installment of the “Mummy” reboot, due out in 2026. To add to their already impressive collection, they have also announced a new horror film featuring an up-and-coming director and a popular A-list actor making a return to the genre after years away.
Based on an exclusive report from Deadline, Atomic Monster, Blumhouse, and Spin a Black Yarn are collaborating to produce a horror movie adapted from Josh Malerman’s novel “Incidents Around the House”. Universal Pictures will handle distribution for this film. Rob Savage has been appointed as director, with Nathan Elston, known for his work on Succession, writing the script. The most exciting news is that Jessica Chastain, who last starred in a horror movie back in 2019’s “It Chapter Two”, will also be part of this project.
Jessica Chastain Is Returning To The Horror Genre With Incidents Around The House
As a passionate film buff, I can’t help but admire the remarkable journey of Jessica Chastain, who didn’t truly explode onto the Hollywood scene until her mid-30s. A graduate of the prestigious Julliard School, she honed her craft in various projects such as “Veronica Mars,” “ER,” and “Jolene” before hitting her stride with the trio of “The Tree of Life,” “Take Shelter,” and “The Help” in 2011. The following year, Chastain took center stage in “Zero Dark Thirty,” which became a surprise box office success and earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Since then, this California-born actress has consistently balanced major Hollywood roles with more daring and experimental projects. For instance, in 2017 alone, she narrated and executive produced the documentary “I Am Jane Doe,” headlined Aaron Sorkin’s “Molly’s Game,” took on a role in the Western “Woman Walks Ahead,” and acted in and executive produced the WWII drama “The Zookeeper’s Wife.” It’s clear that Jessica Chastain is a dedicated artist who never stops pushing herself.
In the horror scene, it’s not just Chastain who’ll be involved in “Incidents Around the House”; Rob Savage, a director who gained prominence five years ago with the unexpected success of “Host” (2020), is also joining the team. On a meager budget of $100,000, “Host” was an unforeseen hit, earning a nearly perfect 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Remarkably, Savage and his crew filmed the movie entirely using Zoom software over a span of 12 weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following “Host”, Savage directed “Dashcam” and “The Boogeyman”, the latter being an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1973 short story with the same name, though it didn’t achieve the success of its predecessor.
Following many years of work in the production sector, Nathan Elston transitioned to scriptwriting for the business. He’s now part of a writing team working on five episodes of Succession. If this project materializes, it would mark his debut as a screenwriter, based on the storyline of Incidents Around the House. With Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions leading the way, horror enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating this production.
