Metro 2033, a cherished survival shooter, presents a captivating perspective of post-apocalyptic Russia. The upgraded version, Metro 2033 Redux, further enhances the gaming experience. In addition to various user-friendly improvements, Metro 2033 Redux restructures the campaign for a smoother gameplay progression.
Initially, Metro 2033 debuted in 2010 on Xbox 360 and PC platforms. Four years later in 2014, Metro 2033 Redux was launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC alongside an upgraded version of its sequel, Metro: Last Light Redux. These Redux versions aren’t just visual upgrades; they encompass a significant number of changes beyond the aesthetics.
Metro 2033 Redux Changes and Improvements
The major upgrade in Metro 2033 Redux lies in its updated engine, which is now similar to that of its sequel, Last Light. This has brought about various graphic improvements, new gameplay mechanics, and additional features.
Since Metro 2033 Redux uses the same engine as Last Light, players can now remove their masks during gameplay and execute stealth takedowns, along with other enhancements. This updated version offers more authentic gun handling and precise firearm features. For instance, it keeps track of whether a round is in the chamber while reloading guns.
Moreover, Metro 2033 Redux presents additional challenge levels to select. Among these options is the popular Ranger mode, which intensifies immersion with enhanced difficulty settings. Additionally, players can opt for Spartan or Survival modes. The Spartan setting leans towards action-packed gameplay and boosts resource availability, similar to Metro: Last Light. On the other hand, the Survival mode restricts resources and slows down the game pace, much like the original Metro 2033.
In the revamped version of Metro 2033 Redux, several significant adjustments have been made to the campaign layout, merging individual stages into continuous play sessions without interruptions from loading screens. Despite these alterations, the narrative and missions remain identical to the original game; however, the overall experience is smoother in Redux.

In the game Metro 2033 Redux, although there are no fresh levels or locations, hidden treasures have been incorporated into the storyline, taking cues from Last Light. For instance, certain missions in Redux now feature locked safes. As players explore and search for resources, they may come across keys that can unlock these safes, providing them with valuable items such as resources, ammunition, and supplies.
Essentially, Metro 2033 Redux represents an improved iteration of the initial game, aligning it closer to the subsequent installments in the Metro series. Although it may not reach the quality of something like Metro: Exodus, the exceptional ambiance and smoother campaign advancement in Metro 2033 Redux make it a standout first-person shooter experience.
