Summary
- New World: Aeternum MMORPG will undergo a third wave of server merges.
- Players on Draco and Rosa servers will see merges begin on April 29.
- The Amazon dev team noted, “We’ll continue to monitor population trends and adapt as needed.”
Amazon’s massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), New World, is experiencing its third set of server merges following its initial release of Aeternum in 2024. Prior to this, two rounds of server merges had taken place, in November 2024 and February 2025. After the completion of this third round, it’s anticipated that New World will continue with 28 active servers.
Coexisting with popular MMOs such as Final Fantasy 14, World of Warcraft, and The Elder Scrolls Online, Amazon’s entry is somewhat eclipsed by these giants in terms of popularity. Nevertheless, the game world of Aeternum managed to secure its own Secret Level episode (possibly because Amazon is involved with both projects), featuring the voices of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Pacey, Gabriel Luna, and others.
In a post on their Discord server and social media platforms, the team announced that the upcoming merge will be more modest, integrating Draco into Aries for European players and Rosa into Hudsonland on the US East Coast. At this time, it’s undecided whether players can utilize free transfer tokens. Those inhabiting Draco and Rosa should expect merges to start on April 29th. They have the choice to move to another server themselves or wait to be relocated to a default server. Previously, Amazon conducted server merges for New World in 2021, addressing a scattered player base since launch and empty servers due to free server transfers.
Amazon Confirms New World’s Third Round of Server Merges
After the debut of Brimstone Sands, a new zone in the MMO “New World,” launched in 2022, the game saw an increase in player count. This spurred Amazon to introduce Fresh Start servers across all regions. After announcing further server merges, the Amazon development team stated, “We’ll keep an eye on population changes and adjust as necessary,” suggesting that more mergers might be coming up. Following the recent server merges, some players proposed that Amazon should consolidate the player base into a single regional server to improve gameplay, while others voiced worries about the game’s longevity after the upcoming sandbox MMO “Ashes of Creation” is released.
2025 saw New World: Aeternum kick off the year with a big announcement, pleasing its dedicated fanbase, as they unveiled season 7 content. Amazon’s plan for the game revealed various additions such as daily solo trails, combat adjustments, new artifacts and perks, seasonal events and world bosses, along with mutated expedition enhancements arriving with the start of season 7. The roadmap also indicated that new seasonal worlds and advancements in endgame progression were under development, featuring fresh weapons, ranked player versus player (PvP), and new player versus environment (PvE) modes which the team is currently investigating.
