Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for The Pitt season 1.
Summary
- Fans wondered about Dana’s future after a harrowing incident on season 1 of The Pitt.
- Showrunner assures Dana’s return in season 2 will focus on character development.
- Dana’s potential PTSD from the attack is expected to be a central storyline in the upcoming season.
From the moment “The Pitt” graced our screens on Max in January 2025, I was hooked! Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, played brilliantly by Noah Wyle, captivated me with his portrayal of a character that was both powerful and vulnerable. Although I’ve been a fan of other medical dramas like “Grey’s Anatomy,” the unique format of “The Pitt,” where each episode unfolds during an hour-long shift in the E.R., sets it apart. I eagerly awaited every new episode, even though some cases were heart-wrenching and difficult to stomach. Yet, I admire how grounded in reality each storyline is, making the show all the more compelling.
I found the intricate plot of Dr. Frank Langdon, played by Patrick Ball, captivating during season 1 of The Pitt. I’ve been pondering who else might join the cast for season 2 and I eagerly hope that this new character will become a permanent addition to the series.
Is Dana Evans Leaving Before The Pitt Season 2? Why I Want Her To Stay

In a more conversational tone,
Katherine LaNara, playing Dana Evans in The Pitt, is my preferred character from the series. It was tough watching her predicament at the end of season 1. After being assaulted by an enraged patient Doug Driscoll (Drew Powell), Dana puts on a brave front, but internally, she’s battling with the trauma. By the final episode of season 1, “9:00 P.M.,” Dana is contemplating resigning from her role as charge nurse, and Robby is among those who don’t want to see her leave.
Upon diving into the thrilling finale, I couldn’t help but speculate whether Dana might part ways with the series. However, Noah Wyle’s recent chat with TV Line about season 2 of The Pitt has eased my concerns a bit:
“…something he said in the interview has given fans a glimmer of hope.
“But, obviously, I can’t get rid of Katherine. Obviously, Dana is an important part.”
According to showrunner R. Scott Gemill, a time jump in the second season allows for Dana’s return. In other words, the plot advancement through a leap in time facilitates Dana’s comeback.
If the next season were to begin tomorrow or next week, you wouldn’t find Dana participating. I believe she needs a break to have some serious conversations with her husband about their future plans in life…. I suspect when she returns, there might be a noticeable change in her attitude. She’ll likely become less patient with nonsense. She’ll also be more vigilant in protecting her group or ‘flock’.
As the heart and soul of the hospital, I can’t fathom Dana leaving because she’s an integral part of the team. Her presence is like a beacon of inspiration that guides everyone around her. With her unique blend of kindness, compassion, and tough love, she’s the one they all turn to for advice and understanding ears. In her absence, the characters would feel adrift. They rely on her as their anchor during those chaotic, stressful, and nerve-wracking shifts – just like in The Pitt season 1.
The popularity of “The Pitt” is immense, with fans like Stephen King, largely due to the skillfully crafted characters such as Dana, who always seem to say the right thing at the right time. Losing Dana would undoubtedly be a great loss, and I believe it would particularly impact Robby and Langdon the most. They find comfort in Dana’s straightforward demeanor and blunt yet shrewd advice. I’m eager to see how her guidance and strong, resilient personality inspires them to bring about changes in “The Pitt” during season 2.
What Should Dana’s The Pitt Season 2 Storyline Be?

I believe it’s crucial for Dana’s storyline in The Pitt’s second season to involve her dealing with Doug Driscoll’s attack incident. Perhaps, in the hospital setting, she encounters a patient who has been hurt. Alternatively, she might develop a relationship with a doctor or staff member who had previously experienced an attack from a patient. This interaction could serve to link the events of season 1 and season 2, while also resolving any lingering plot threads.
Given that each installment of The Pitt unfolds in real-time, akin to the Kiefer Sutherland series 24, there’s ample scope for exploring Dana’s possible PTSD. With Wyle hinting at Dana’s significance, I’m optimistic she’ll reappear in the E.R., and I’m eager to find out more about her storyline.
