Summary
- Nintendo Switch 2 U.S. pre-orders will start on April 24, 15 days later than initially planned.
- The console will retain its originally listed $449.99 price, but most of its accessories will be more expensive than initially announced.
- Nintendo cited changes in market conditions as the reason for the price hikes, adding that more price adjustments are possible in the future.
On April 24th, the U.S. pre-orders for the Switch 2 will become available at its originally stated price of $449.99, according to Nintendo’s confirmation. However, it’s been noted that most accessories for the Switch 2 are expected to cost more than initially disclosed.
During a Nintendo Direct event held in April, we got our first look at the initial lineup of official accessories for the new Switch 2 console. However, just two days after this reveal, Nintendo postponed the pre-order start date for the Switch 2 in the U.S., which had originally been scheduled for April 9. This decision was made to evaluate how the broad import tariffs imposed by the Trump administration might affect the console’s pricing and availability.
By April 18th, the company had finished and disclosed its findings. They then revealed that U.S. pre-orders for the Switch 2 would begin on Thursday, April 24th. The console will be available at its previously stated price of $449.99. Unfortunately, most official Switch 2 accessories have seen a price increase from their initially announced figures.

The AC Adapter for the Switch 2 is also seeing an increase of 16%, bringing its price up to $34.99. The Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip and Switch 2 Camera are subjected to double-digit percentage increases as well. These price rises could potentially encourage more consumers to opt for third-party accessories for the Switch 2 instead.
More Nintendo Switch 2 Price Hikes Are Possible
Nintendo attributed the increased prices before release primarily to shifts in market conditions, suggesting that future adjustments to any of their product prices may occur depending on these market circumstances. The next possible change could transpire on July 9th, when the 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs by the Trump administration is set to end. Given the ongoing trade conflict between the U.S. and China, it’s unlikely that the price of the Switch 2 will remain constant. A significant portion of Nintendo’s manufacturing takes place in China, and while they do have factories in Vietnam, they might not be sufficient to cater to the entire North American market.
Future changes to the pricing of any Nintendo item might occur, based on the fluctuations of market circumstances.
The delay in pre-orders won’t impact the U.S. launch date for Switch 2, which remains set for June 5th. At the same time, this device will debut with over 20 initial games, featuring titles like “Mario Kart World”, “Deltarune”, “Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess”, and “Cyberpunk 2077”.
