This article contains spoilers from the Naruto series.
Summary
- Minato won the Naruto Top100 Poll
- The winner got a one-shot from Kishimoto
- Kishimoto wants to draw an Itachi one-shot next
For quite some time now, the creator of the Naruto series, Masashi Kishimoto, has taken a break from drawing manga. The Naruto series concluded its serialization in Jump around a decade back, and fans are well aware that his subsequent work, Samurai 8, didn’t make it past completion. Despite Kishimoto’s undeniable talent as a mangaka, it’s less than ideal for fans to see him stay away from manga for an extended period.
The reason for the Naruto fandom’s exuberance was when Kishimoto released the Minato One-shot about two years back. With the Minato One-shot out in the open, fans are now eagerly anticipating another One-shot, this time focusing on Itachi Uchiha, a promise made by Kishimoto that he might produce himself.
Masashi Kishimoto Dropped A Minato One-shot In 2023
- Minato Won The Naruto Top100 Poll
- The Winner Received A One Shot From Kishimoto
In 2022-2023, a global popularity survey for the anime series Naruto took place, leaving everyone associated with Jump astonished by the enduring international affection for the show. The poll, filled with excitement, allowed fans to cast their daily votes for their favorite characters over a set duration. When the ballots were tallied, it was revealed that Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage of Konoha, was the most popular character. As a reward, the top voter would receive a unique one-shot manga from Kishimoto himself. On July 17, 2023, fans received their long-awaited Minato manga, which turned out to be an exceptional read.
I shall call it the Rasegan. — Kushina Uzumaki naming Minato’s jutsu.
Lately, Kishimoto mentioned the prospect of creating additional standalone manga, and fans can hardly wait for him to follow through. Just as Minato is beloved by many, it would be nothing short of splendid if this next character got his own one-shot.
Kishimoto Wants To Draw An Itachi One-Shot Next
Kishimoto Might Even Draw A New Manga
Currently, I, an observer, can’t predict when Kishimoto might unveil his next project, but in 2024, he expressed a desire to create more standalone stories like the Minato one. Kishimoto himself has been pondering whether to produce more of these one-shots or not. If he decides to proceed, he’s considering basing them on character popularity rankings. As many Naruto fans are aware, Itachi Uchiha, Sasuke’s elder brother, came in second place in the recent poll. Therefore, if a new Naruto one-shot materializes, it’s likely to revolve around Itachi. Here’s what Kishimoto mentioned about the potential one-shot manga:
In this version, I’ve used “I, an observer” to maintain the first person perspective and made the information more conversational to make it easier to read.
Yes, I’d prefer to consider others before making a decision, but I have a strong preference for two characters based on reader rankings. First is Minato, followed closely by Itachi. Although I speak jokingly about Itachi, there might be some truth in my words. — Masashi Kishimoto
In this version, I’ve attempted to maintain the original meaning while clarifying that the speaker prefers to consider other options but has strong preferences based on reader rankings and qualifies their statement about Itachi as a joke with an added “there might be some truth in my words.
It appears that Kishimoto is considering creating additional standalone stories, although he’s not definitive about it. If this happens, it would mean more Naruto content for fans in the coming years since Kishimoto has expressed openness to this idea.
Beyond just hinting at it, there’s a strong possibility that Kishimoto could bring back an entire manga series too. During the same event, he mentioned that he’s currently working on a new manga. Whether this means another Naruto spin-off or an entirely fresh series is yet to be revealed, but fans will be thrilled when Kishimoto decides to revisit Shonen Jump and captivate us like the good old days.
In my viewpoint as a keen fan, I’m excited to share that the next thrilling chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is scheduled for release on April 20, 2025. The release time, you ask? It’s 10 AM Eastern Standard Time or 3 PM Coordinated Universal Time. Just like before, enthusiasts can delve into the chapter without any charges, right from their devices, through apps such as Manga Plus and Shonen Jump!
