In Stardew Valley, if your goal is to net every fish species, you’ll encounter some rare ones that are particularly tricky to reel in. These elusive creatures are the Legendary Fish, representing the peak challenge for your fishing talents within the valley. Each Legendary Fish has a designated spot, specific season, preferred weather, and a minimum Fishing Level you must attain before you can successfully catch them.
In Stardew Valley, each Legendary Fish can only be caught once per save file (or once per player in a multiplayer game). Once it’s lost or cooked, it’s permanently gone. This emphasizes just how rare and special these Legendary Fish truly are. Here’s a guide to help you catch every single one of the Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley.
How To Catch Every Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley
In Stardew Valley, catching legendary fish is not an easy feat due to their swift and unpredictable movements during the fishing mini-game. It requires quick reflexes and precise timing to reel them in, making it quite a challenge. The recent 1.6 Update introduced some exciting new features, one of which allows you to put legendary fish in your farm’s ponds. Each fish imparts a distinctive water color to its pond and can yield legendary fish roe. This new element adds even more allure to the quest of finding and successfully catching these legendary fish within Stardew Valley.
There are a total of five Legendary Fish in the game. Here’s how you can catch each one of them.
Angler
Fishing Level Required | Location | Time | Season | Weather |
3 | Pelican Town | Any | Fall | Any |
To reel in a good catch in Stardew Valley, make your way to Pelican Town’s northern part near JojaMart, specifically, the river region. Make sure you have reached Fishing Level 3 before attempting this. The best spot for fishing is on the wooden bridge that spans the river or the shoreline directly north of it. Cast your line into the water from either location for optimal results.
You don’t have to throw your line too far; the Angler fish in this part of the river can be found anywhere as long as you’re standing at the right location. Also, remember that there are no specific time or weather conditions needed to catch the Angler in Stardew Valley. It can be caught during any day within the Fall season.
Crimsonfish
Fishing Level Required | Location | Time | Season | Weather |
5 | Ocean | Any | Summer | Any |
During the summertime, make your way to the beach to try and reel in a legendary fish. To have any hope of catching it, you’ll need to have reached at least a Fishing Level 5. Your aim should be the east pier, which becomes accessible once you’ve repaired the small bridge. This is the long wooden structure that extends into the sea on the right-hand side of the beach.
In Stardew Valley, as long as you’re standing on the pier itself or the sandy area to its east, you’re within the possible fishing range for the Crimsonfish. The Crimsonfish tends to reside in deeper ocean waters, so make sure your Fishing Zone is at least 3. If your bobber floats four or more tiles away from land, you have a great opportunity to catch a Crimsonfish.
Glacierfish
Fishing Level Required | Location | Time | Season | Weather |
6 | Cindersap Forest | Any | Winter | Any |
1. In winter, the specific location is the Cindersap Forest where you’ll find what you’re looking for. Once you reach Fishing Level 6, make your way to Arrowhead Island, which lies in the center of the big pond. To cast your line effectively, stand on the island’s southernmost tip.
2. During wintertime, look for the item in Cindersap Forest. After achieving Fishing Level 6, navigate to Arrowhead Island situated smack dab in the middle of the large pond. For a successful cast, position yourself at the southern extremity of this small, easily identifiable island.
3. In winter, search for what you need in the Cindersap Forest. Once your Fishing Level reaches 6, head to Arrowhead Island, the small, distinctive landmass nestled right in the middle of the large pond. To make an efficient cast, position yourself at the southernmost point of this island.
4. In winter, you’ll discover what you seek in Cindersap Forest. Once you hit Fishing Level 6, journey to Arrowhead Island, which is located smack-dab in the middle of the large pond. To cast your line effectively, stand on the southern tip of this small, easily recognizable island.
5. During winter, the target can be found within Cindersap Forest. After achieving Fishing Level 6, travel to Arrowhead Island, which is situated right in the middle of the large pond. To ensure a successful cast, stand on the southernmost tip of this small, clearly visible island.
Just as the Crimsonfish thrives in deeper waters, aim for a Fishing Zone rating of 3 or above to catch the Glacierfish. Throwing your line at least four spaces away from any land (including the shoreline) increases your chances of landing in these advantageous fishing spots.
Mutant Carp
Fishing Level Required | Location | Time | Season | Weather |
Any | The Sewers | Any | All | Any |
In Stardew Valley, once you’ve unlocked the sewers, you’ll always be able to catch the Mutant Carp there, no matter what the time of year or weather conditions are.
Any location inside the sewers is suitable for catching the Mutant Carp. Unlike certain areas in the sewer system that are known hotspots for other fish, there isn’t a particular spot that guarantees success with this species. Although it may not be as elusive as some of the other legendary fish, the Mutant Carp can still prove challenging to catch and might require several attempts.
In order to unlock sewers, you need to donate at least 60 items to the museum.
Legend
Fishing Level Required | Location | Time | Season | Weather |
10 | Mountain Lake | Any | Spring | Rain |
In Stardew Valley, catching the Legend fish is known as one of the game’s toughest catches. You can only find it during spring showers. To capture the Legend, make your way to the Mountain Lake, located to the north of the Mines entrance. Your ideal fishing spot is near the submerged log on the lake’s western side. Ensure you stand on the shore nearest to that sunken log so your bobber drops in Fishing Zone 5 – this area offers the best chances for reeling in the Legend.
In Stardew Valley, unlike many other fish, catching the Legend requires you to have reached Fishing Level 10 first. This suggests that you’ll probably encounter this legendary catch later in your gaming experience, once you’ve amassed a good amount of fishing skill. Even with optimal conditions and a high Fishing Level, be prepared for the Legend to put up a fight.
Just as learning any other ability, you can enhance your Fishing Skill and gather some practical fishing knowledge by studying books such as “Bait and Bobber” or “Book of Stars”.
Tips For Catching Every Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley
It’s indisputable that these fish are quite challenging to reel in. Yet, just as usual, you can boost your success rate by implementing a few straightforward strategies. Here are some top-notch tactics that could enhance your chances of landing Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley:
1. Use the correct bait: Experiment with different types of bait to find out what works best for the fish you’re targeting.
2. Visit the right location: Certain fish prefer specific areas, so make sure you’re fishing in the appropriate spot.
3. Time your trips wisely: Fish are more active at certain times of day, so plan your outings accordingly.
4. Upgrade your rod and tackle: Investing in better equipment can improve your chances of catching rarer fish.
5. Be patient: Legendary fish aren’t easy catches, so be prepared to spend some time waiting for the perfect moment.
6. Don’t forget about bobber tactics: Using a bobber can help you identify when a fish is biting even if it’s not actively striking your bait.
- Eat Fishing Buff Foods: Foods like Dish o’ The Sea (+3), Seafoam Pudding (+4), Fish Stew (+3), Fish Taco (+2) and Lobster Bisque (+3) can temporarily boost your Fishing level, making it easier to reach the required level and reel in tough catches. Make sure to remember the duration of these buffs.
- Use Magic Bait: The Magic Bait lets you catch the Legendary Fish, regardless of time of day, season, or weather. This is a game-changer because it means you can potentially catch any fish that resides in that specific body of water.
In the Stardew Valley game, you’ll find the enchanting Magic Bait once you’ve opened Qi’s Walnut Room on Ginger Island. You have two options to acquire it:
1. Purchase a single Magic Bait for 5 Qi Gems.
2. Acquire the crafting recipe by spending 20 Qi Gems.
- Use the Curiosity Lure: This is a special piece of tackle that increases your chances of catching rare fish. While it doesn’t guarantee a rare catch every time, it tilts the odds in your favor. For instance, you have a 20% chance of reeling in a Legendary Fish with the Curiosity Lure, compared to only 10% without it.
- Watch for Bubbles: Bubbling fishing spots can sometimes override the deep Fishing Zone requirements, allowing you to catch legendary fish in slightly shallower areas.
