Gege Reveals The Truth About What Happened To Sukuna’s Body
Sukuna’s Body Was Kept By Uraume
From my perspective, watching the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen left me, and many other fans, with a host of lingering queries, which inevitably led to feelings of disappointment given the abundance of enigmas still shrouding the narrative. However, the tide has turned for devoted followers as they’ve been treated to an intriguing new series event. This momentous occasion saw Gege Akutami, the mastermind behind Jujutsu Kaisen, unveiling some fascinating insights that help clarify events from the final arc and address several questions left unanswered.
Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen have long found themselves drawn to the Heian period, an era that housed Sukuna before his return to the present timeline. This era abounds in mysteries and, surprisingly, has received only scant attention from Gege Akutami, despite its immense potential. While Sukuna’s past during this time remains somewhat unclear, Gege did shed some light on Sukuna’s history in response to a question posed by fans.
1. Sukuna’s body was sealed inside a barrier by Mahito, who planned to use it for his own nefarious purposes.
2. The barrier was eventually found and destroyed by Suguri, a powerful sorcerer from the Heian era.
3. Suguri, recognizing the immense power that Sukuna’s body could unleash, decided to keep it hidden away in order to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
4. Over time, the sealed Sukuna body was passed down through generations of powerful sorcerers who continued to protect and hide it.
5. This secret eventually came to light when Yuta Okkotsu’s childhood friend, Rika Orimoto, unwittingly released the power of Sukuna’s body during a ritual meant to summon her deceased loved one.
6. The current events in Jujutsu Kaisen revolve around the repercussions of this release and the struggle between sorcerers who seek to harness Sukuna’s power for their own purposes and those who wish to keep it contained and prevent its misuse.
In the agreement with Kenjaku, a portion of one’s body transforms into a cursed artifact. For Sukuna, this curse affected his fingers, but he had more parts transformed compared to other sorcerers. After his demise, it was said that his body was being held by Uraume, and following Uraume’s death, the corpse vanished. It’s possible that the body wasn’t buried; perhaps someone unearthed it instead? (Gege Akutami)
Initially, Gege clarifies that any person who enters a pact with Kenjaku will have their affected body part transform into an immortal cursed object, such as Sukuna’s 20 fingers. Uraume was responsible for guarding Sukuna’s remains, but later on, Uraume too perished. The details of how the corpse came to be at Tengen’s location remain unclear.
It’s clear that delving deeper into Sukuna’s past during the Heian Era is certainly intriguing, given that we even got a glimpse of him and Uraume from that time in the last bonus chapter of the series. If Araki ever decides to release a standalone story focused on Sukuna and Uraume, fans would surely appreciate more insights into the Heian era. There’s plenty of potential for story development during that period.
