This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Summary
- Usopp’s character development in the Elbaf arc is minimal, disappointing fans.
- Eiichiro Oda confirmed that Usopp will always be the weakest Straw Hat member.
- The crew must gear up for a tough battle against the powerful God’s Knights in Elbaf.
The Straw Hat Pirates form a tightly bonded team who’ve managed to surmount numerous obstacles on their voyage. Each member of the crew plays a pivotal role in the narrative, and it’s evident that every individual is equally significant. If any one of them were absent, the entire group would be thrown into turmoil.
Among the initial group of characters who embarked on their adventure during the East Blue Saga is Usopp. Even before the crew had visited Elbaf, he displayed a special affection for its colossal inhabitants. This prior attachment sparked speculation among One Piece enthusiasts that Usopp would shine in the Elbaf storyline. However, based on his performance up to this point, it appears that this may not be the case.
The Elbaf Arc Is Not Usopp’s
Oda Has Other Plans For Usopp

- Usopp will remain weak
- He will help out the crew in other ways
Since his initial appearance, it’s been evident that Usopp is a fearful character who quickly retreats upon encountering danger. Yet, on numerous occasions, he has expressed his desire to transform into a valiant sea warrior. This ambition presents quite a formidable task for one as reluctant as Usopp when it comes to standing in the midst of conflict.
Contrarily to what many One Piece enthusiasts anticipated, they thought the Elbaf arc would significantly impact Usopp’s character and help him conquer some of his apprehensions. Regrettably, it appears that Usopp might not be undergoing any major changes just yet.
In Chapter 1146, Usopp made a small contribution against the God’s Knights, but his impact was not significant in the grand scheme. He managed to strike Gunko, but her healing abilities quickly restored her health. Upon witnessing her regenerative powers, Usopp burst into tears and apologized to one of the God’s Knights.
After the event unfolded, Nami intervened to shield Usopp from Gunko’s attack. Given the might of the God’s Knights, it seems unlikely that Usopp will inflict substantial damage upon them. Therefore, it appears that the Elbaf arc may not serve as a platform for Usopp’s character growth.
Fans Need To Realize That Usopp Will Never Be Strong

According to Eiichiro Oda, Usopp is consistently portrayed as the least powerful member among the Straw Hat Pirates. Regardless of who else might join the team, Usopp’s position as the weakest character is maintained intentionally by the author to ensure a balance within the crew.
Because Oda prefers Usopp to remain less powerful compared to the rest of the Straw Hats, it’s unlikely that he’ll develop into a formidable fighter. Instead, Oda aims to make Usopp courageous, a trait that doesn’t necessarily rely on physical strength.
You think I don’t know an Emperor could obliterate every one of us!? —Usopp
In Wano, Ulti came close to shattering Nami’s skull, yet she stood her ground and reinforced her loyalty to her captain. She even predicted that Luffy would become the Pirate King. This incident underscores Nami’s bravery compared to Usopp. If the marksman of the Straw Hats aspires to achieve his dream, he must demonstrate similar courage in future encounters.
The Straw Hats Must Prepare For Another War
The Heroes Must Beat The God’s Knights
Fans are aware that the Straw Hat Pirates are currently engaged in a tough battle on Elbaf. Upon their arrival on the island, they were unaware of another intense fight looming ahead. The Straw Hats find themselves up against the God’s Knights, a powerful group of fighters loyal to the World Government. This entity is tasked with shielding the Celestial Dragons from any potential dangers.
To date, every member of the God’s Knights has proven to be astonishingly powerful. They all wield extraordinary abilities derived from Devil Fruits, making it effortless for them to overpower their adversaries. Furthermore, it appears they possess a formidable power of regeneration, ensuring that regular attacks have no effect on them. As of now, the God’s Knights have not shown any vulnerabilities that the heroes can exploit.
It seems like things will need to improve quickly, or else the Straw Hat crew won’t be able to defeat their opponents. At this juncture, Scopper Gaban appears to be their most promising option. Given his mastery of Observation Haki, he could discern something that others might miss. Additionally, there’s a possibility that Loki could join forces with Luffy to tackle the God’s Knights.
