Mario Kart World Teases R.O.B.’s Return in Exciting New Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Game

Summary

  • Mario Kart World will release alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5 as a launch title.
  • The game’s recent Direct confirmed the addition of a R.O.B. bike, teasing the possible return of the beloved guest character.

After the thrilling Nintendo Switch 2 Presentation, where they unveiled their next-generation console, Nintendo recently hosted the Mario Kart Universe Presentation, offering a comprehensive sneak peek at the upcoming racing game. A single snapshot confirmed the reappearance of a cherished character from the series who has previously been a guest racer in previous versions of Mario Kart. Guest racers are characters hailing from different Nintendo franchises beyond the Super Mario world, with past teams featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda and Isabelle from Animal Crossing. However, one previous guest character has made an unexpected return in Mario Kart Universe.

In sync with the launch of the Switch 2 on June 5, Mario Kart World is set to debut. Initially available as a launch title, it can either be bought as part of a package or separately. The game boasts more than 40 playable characters and accommodates up to 24 racers simultaneously. One of its novel additions is edible items on the track. During Nintendo’s Direct presentation, details were revealed about several features coming to Mario Kart World for the Switch 2, including eight new tracks that will be incorporated into the game.

As a gaming enthusiast, I was thrilled when the latest Mario Kart World Direct confirmed the return of a much-loved character, though only as an item. The excitement spiked even higher when they hinted at the resurrection of ROB from the racing series. However, it’s essential not to set our expectations too high just yet.

During the Mario Kart World Direct, we spotted a new bike in the “Yoshi’s” segment that appeared to be a tribute to the robot from the Nintendo Entertainment System era. The red-and-white bike matches the colorway of the original R.O.B. toy robot accessory released back in 1985, and R.O.B., or Robotic Operating Buddy, was the final unlockable character in Mario Kart DS.

Unfortunately, the appearance of the R.O.B. bike doesn’t guarantee that the robot will be back as a playable racer. However, it does suggest that Nintendo is considering him for future updates. Keep your fingers crossed, fellow gamers!

Mario Kart World Confirms R.O.B. Bike

Following the thrilling sneak peek at Mario Kart World, Nintendo enthusiasts maintained one significant grievance: the inclusion of ROB or R.O.B.’s components instead of the full robot in the game. On the brighter side, many Mario Kart fans were elated to see ROB make a return to the series. Twitter was abuzz with enthusiasm, praising the bike’s design as “amazing.” However, some robot enthusiasts felt it was unfair that R.O.B. was represented only by bike parts in the game.

To expand upon the design of the franchise, the Director also disclosed the game modes for the upcoming release Mario Kart World. This includes the comeback of Time Trials, VS Races, Team Races, Balloon Battle, and Coin Runners. The new title will additionally offer four primary modes: Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, Free Roam, and Battle Mode. One particularly intriguing mode from this selection is Free Roam, offering an immersive open world for players to traverse and explore.
