Exciting news for Boruto fans! It’s officially confirmed that the sequel to their beloved anime is currently being developed. The anime adaptation of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” had a pause since March 2023, and fans have been anxiously waiting for updates about its comeback.
Similarly to Naruto, Boruto also features numerous non-canonical events known as fillers. One such filler, significant in the sequel, raises questions about Sarada’s rank that must be addressed in the upcoming series. Therefore, the anime creators may need to clarify Sarada’s standing in the new season.
There Is A Problem With Sarada’s Ranking In The Anime
Just as I eagerly followed the anime adaptation of Naruto, I can’t help but notice the abundance of filler episodes and arcs in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations that aren’t part of the original manga. These fillers were crafted during the period when the animation was playing catch-up with the ongoing storyline from the source material.
Fillers in a storyline often don’t advance the central narrative significantly, serving instead to prolong the tale without significantly altering the main plot. This is done to maintain pacing while keeping the primary storyline intact. However, due to ongoing development of the source material, fillers can sometimes conflict with later events because the creators or producers may not have foreseen these developments at the time of creation.
For the anime Boruto, they had an abundance of previous Naruto content to draw from while the manga was still progressing, which likely influenced their decision to adapt several novels. However, despite this, there were some notable differences between the original and the series that will undoubtedly need to be addressed in Part 2.
In the anime “Boruto: Two-Blue Vortex”, Sarada Uchiha, despite having passed the Chunin Exam and becoming a Chunin in the original series, is still classified as a Genin. This discrepancy necessitates an explanation from the anime regarding why Sarada’s rank has changed back to Genin.
That Is Easy To Fix, Honestly
For fans who only watch the anime, it might seem peculiar that Sarada is again a genin, but there’s an explanation. In the story arc “Boruto Two-Blue Vortex,” Eida’s extraordinary power to manipulate reality causes everyone, except a select few, to remember Boruto and Kawaki in each other’s places. This shift might explain Sarada’s current rank.
Despite not fully comprehending the circumstances, Sarada realizes that something is amiss, and she feels everything is awry. Meanwhile, in Naruto’s absence, Shikamaru, functioning as the temporary Hokage, maintains Sarada as a Genin, seemingly to chastise her for her defiant behavior and hopefully alter her perspective.
Therefore, the anime might choose to portray that Shikamaru demoted her as a consequence of the punishment, thereby underscoring Boruto’s current isolation within Konoha, as people now believe he was responsible for Naruto’s death.
When Will Boruto Finally Return?
The long-awaited news is out: Boruto Part 2 is indeed under production! Previous speculations hinted at Pierrot already being involved in the series, but now it’s official. Yet, they haven’t given us a specific date for its release just yet.
In 2023, Pierrot paused the Boruto series since it had matched the pace of the manga. A few months later, “Boruto Two-Blue Vortex”, which takes place two years after “Generations”, resumed publication following a break in its serialization.
It appears the studio is planning to dedicate all their resources to animating “Bleach: A Thousand-Year Blood War” for top-notch quality, but there are indications that they might first release a special series commemorating “Naruto” before starting a new season of “Boruto”.
Will It Still Be Called “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations”?
Based on the following, it seems likely that Part 2 of the series will be titled “Boruto: Two-Blue Vortex.” Additionally, production company Pierrot is transitioning to a more common seasonal release schedule for their anime series.
The comeback of Boruto might bring positive vibes to the supporters of “Black Clover,” another series that has been off the airwaves for quite some duration.
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is available to stream on Crunchyroll and other services.
