UNLEASH the GOLD MINE: Secret to Making a FORTUNE with Stardew Valley Coops

In the world of Stardew Valley, it’s indispensable to have a farm with poultry, particularly chickens. This is more so in Stardew Valley. The chicken coop is less expensive than a barn, and it serves multiple purposes – providing eggs for income and cooking. Moreover, the versatile Stardew Valley coop can accommodate not just chickens, but also ducks, rabbits, and even dinosaurs, depending on how extensively you choose to upgrade your coop.

A chicken coop is an excellent initial investment for a farm, as it’s less expensive than constructing a barn and serves as a place to keep animals. After building one, there are numerous strategies to earn substantial profits from your chickens. The income generated can then be used to improve the coop, leading to even greater earnings, creating a profitable cycle.

How To Get A Coop

You have several options on how to get your first Coop in Stardew Valley, namely buying the building or choosing a suitable farm. In the first case, you will find the coop and its upgrades at Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop. The shop is north of Pelican Town and is usually open from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Buying a chicken coop will cost 4,000 gold and require 300 wood and 100 stone.

At the start of the game, you can collect wood and branches by striking them with an ax. Similarly, stones can be obtained by mining using a pickaxe. Initially, each chicken coop can accommodate just four chickens. But don’t fret, there will be advanced chicken coops available for them later on.

An alternative option is selecting Meadowlands Farm, which offers an ideal setting for raising livestock and generating income through them. What makes this farm appealing is that it comes with a pre-built Chicken Coop and two Chickens right from the start in Stardew Valley.

Using The Regular Coop

It’s time for you to acquire four chickens, which are sold at Marnie’s Ranch for 800 gold pieces each. Remember, they will require care. Make sure to gather hay or provide them with an outdoor area where they can graze (grass won’t be available during winter). Hay can either be bought from a vendor or harvested using a scythe on grass fields (players need to construct a silo to harvest hay themselves).

Each chicken in the farm produces a single brown or white egg every morning, which is worth 50 gold pieces. Don’t forget to show affection towards the chickens by petting them, as this will eventually lead to them laying larger eggs that fetch an impressive 95 gold pieces apiece.

If possible, acquire a mayonnaise maker. With this tool, players can transform eggs into mayonnaise and then sell it for approximately 190 gold pieces – nearly four times the value of selling an ordinary egg. It’s more profitable to sell the eggs or their mayonnaise form instead of turning them into a meal to sell, as creating a meal will result in less profit compared to selling the raw ingredients. For instance, an omelette fetches 125 gold pieces and requires both milk and an egg, but milk alone can be sold for 125 gold pieces on its own.

Upgrading The Coop

After selling enough eggs and mayonnaise, players should eventually have enough coins to start upgrading the chicken coop. This is desirable because farmers can not only have ducks, rabbits, and a greater number of animals, but also an incubator to hatch their own animals from eggs.
The Big Coop will unlock ducks, dinosaurs (which can’t be bought, only hatched with a dinosaur egg), lets players house eight animals, and comes with an incubator. The Deluxe Coop will unlock rabbits, comes with an auto-feed system, and gives room for 12 animals

Requirements For A Big Coop:

  • 10,000 gold
  • 400 wood
  • 150 stone

Requirements For A Deluxe Coop:

  • 20,000 gold
  • 500 wood
  • 200 stone

Getting Animals Other Than Regular Chickens

After enhancing the coop, we now have the liberty to introduce various types of animals other than just chickens. While some are purchased, others arrive through less conventional means.

Void Chicken

1. Trade with another player who has a Void Egg.
2. Participate in special events or promotions that offer Void Eggs as rewards.
3. Purchase a Void Egg from an in-game store, if available.

  • Purchase from Krobus for 5,000 gold.
  • Purchase from Traveling Cart on Friday or Sunday for up to 1,200 gold.
  • A random event can happen at night, causing a witch to fly over the coop and leave a Void Egg.

Ducks

After improving your coop, you can effortlessly get ducks. Following the upgrade, you can buy them from Marnie’s farm for 4,000 gold pieces.

Rabbits

As a rabbit enthusiast, I can’t help but feel excited about the Deluxe Coop upgrade! With this upgrade in place, those adorable rabbits will be up for grabs at Marnie’s Ranch, and it will cost me 8,000 gold to bring them home.

Dinosaurs

To get a Dinosaur, you’ll need to hatch a Dinosaur Egg, which serves as both an artifact and a living creature. You can acquire the egg by digging up hidden spots in the mountains, fishing for treasure chests, foraging on ancient floors of Skull Caverns, winning the Crane Game at the Movie Theater, or receiving it as a drop from a Pepper Rex. After obtaining the egg, simply incubate it, and soon a dinosaur will emerge.

How To Profit With Gold

To maximize earnings in a cooperative game, it’s beneficial for players to develop their farming skills up to level 5. Subsequently, at level 10, focusing on the Artisan skill is advisable. This skill will increase the selling price of all artisan products (like homemade mayonnaise from eggs) by approximately 40%.

If you fully bond with all your farm animals and possess the Artisan skill, here’s an estimate of the income each animal species could generate for farmers:

This way, the information is presented in a more conversational and engaging manner.

Animal Produce Time The Highest It Can Sell For
Normal Chicken Egg High Friendship: Large Egg Per Day Turned into mayo, it sells for 399 gold.
Void Chicken Void Egg Per Day Turned into mayo, it sells for 385 gold.
Duck Egg Max Friendship: Feather Every Two Days Turned into mayo, sells for 525 gold. Feather: 250 gold
Rabbit Wool Max friendship: Iridium rabbit foot Every Four Days Highest quality iridium wool sells for 680 gold. Rabbit Foot: 1,130 gold
Dinosaurs Dinosaur Eggs Every Seven Days Turned into mayo, sells for 1,120 gold.

Given these details, it appears that chickens are the ideal choice for a lucrative coop operation. Other items may fetch higher prices, but they don’t produce consistently on a daily basis like chickens do. Therefore, a farm that aims for maximum profit should focus on raising chickens under the guidance of an artisan farmer.
