Lost Skies Developer Reveals Exciting New Island Creator Features

A team member at Bossa Studios recently shared the origin of the separate island creation tool found in the game ‘Lost Skies’. ‘Lost Skies’ is now accessible on PC via Steam Early Access, having been showcased during a brief trial period at the Steam Next Fest in February. Although the demo for ‘Lost Skies’ was limited and only playable during Steam Next Fest, players had the opportunity to try out parts of the game since December. What sets ‘Lost Skies: Island Creator‘ apart is that it’s a free-to-play tool where gamers can sculpt their own worlds to explore. From adding forest barriers to placing enemy defense towers, players can get a taste of what ‘Lost Skies’ offers and share their creations online for others to experience.

According to an interview with Luke Williams, Lead Designer at Bossa Studios, the concept behind “Lost Skies: Island Creator” emerged from their previous project, “World’s Adrift.” They initially wanted to incorporate islands that were procedurally generated as well as a handful of manually crafted ones for players to explore. However, the abundance of user-created content ultimately led Bossa Studios to conclude that procedurally generated islands weren’t necessary anymore.

Lost Skies’ Island Creator Expands on World’s Adrift

Williams highlighted that his team is planning to broaden the island creator for the game ‘Lost Skies’, enriching it with additional gameplay and puzzles within its existing structure. He mentioned that a multitude of creative island concepts are uploaded to Steam Workshop every day, leaving the development team frequently amazed at the intricate landscapes players manage to construct using the game’s provided asset packs. Williams expressed this thought: “The imagination and creativity shown by our players never cease to amaze us!

Following the development of our island-building tools, we decided to share the excitement by making it available for free on Steam.

In the game “Lost Skies”, players can now delve into the clouds and discover the islands that both they and other players have crafted. The communal creation of these floating islands also guarantees a constant stream of new adventures for exploration.

Lost Skies’ Early Access Plans

Luke Williams shared that Bossa Studios intends to take player feedback into account during the game’s Early Access phase, which is expected to lead to adjustments in the independent ‘Island Creator’ feature, thereby offering players expanded possibilities to tailor their own discoverable islands. Williams has disclosed some of the team’s initial strategies for Early Access.

Initially, we’re focusing on enhancing the reactive polish of the game. However, there are numerous features and content ready to launch, such as new ship components, tech tree advancements, fresh islands, challenging bosses, and innovative gameplay mechanics. We’re eager to discover which aspects of our game, Lost Skies, will captivate the community the most. As we’ve learned from our OpenDev community over the past two years, we’ll continue to pay close attention to player feedback and prioritize updates that significantly improve your gaming experience.

As a gamer, I’m genuinely amazed by the creations the community has come up with using the new tools for Lost Skies. It’s heartening to see that the developers are actively listening and responding to our feedback. This responsiveness is a clear indication that the game’s future is in capable hands.
