On October 2nd, Sony has made it known that the Ghost of Yotei is set to be released. This launch date marks the start of the most financially rewarding season for game publishers, as it will first appear on the market during this period.

During the State of Play event last September 2024, Sony unveiled the latest game from Sucker Punch Productions – none other than “Ghost of Yotei.” They mentioned that this game is aiming for a 2025 release, and boy am I excited! Can’t wait to get my hands on it next year!

Approximately seven months on, the anticipated title “Ghost of Yotei” was given a definite launch date: October 2. Sony unveiled this along with a fresh trailer titled “The Onryō’s List.” As the moniker implies, this three-minute clip offers a peek into the narrative of “Ghost of Yotei,” which revolves around revenge, following a similar theme as the initial game. The story unfolds in the upcoming PS5 exclusive with our protagonist, Atsu, suffering the loss of her family at the hands of a notorious gang known as the Yotei Six. Remarkably, she manages to live through being stabbed and pinned to a blazing ginkgo tree near her devastated home, only to spend the subsequent 16 years honing her fighting, hunting, and killing skills.

Later on, Atsu heads back to Yotei with a list of six targets she plans to seek vengeance against: The Snake, The Oni, The Fox Spirit, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito. Tracking down the true identities of the five masked bandits and dismantling their entire operation will form a substantial part of the primary storyline in Ghost of Yotei. Atsu’s main tool throughout the game is a katana that was once wielded by the Yotei Six to impale her onto a ginkgo tree, hinting that the character places great importance on symbolism.

Ghost of Yotei Pre-Order Bonuses and Editions

Sony has revealed both the release date and additional information about the different versions of “Ghost of Yotei”. The standard edition will cost $69.99, £69.99, or €79.99. Additionally, there are plans for a Deluxe Edition priced at $79.99, £79.99, or €89.99, and a Collector’s Edition whose pricing details have yet to be confirmed. Pre-orders for the U.S. version of “Ghost of Yotei” will start on May 2, at 10am ET. In other regions, pre-orders will go live simultaneously at 10am local time.

For the upcoming game, Ghost of Yotei, the pre-order incentives are rather modest with seven avatars and an in-game mask as bonuses. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with additional perks such as a unique Snake armor set, one charm, an exclusive armor dye, a sword kit, a bonus horse with saddle, and an early-game unlock (Traveler’s Maps). Furthermore, it offers a Collector’s Edition that includes all of the above content along with some tangible items: a sash, a tsuba (sword guard), art cards, the Zeni Hajiki coin game, a ghost mask, and a foldable paper ginkgo tree. To top it off, the latest trailer for this Action Role-Playing Game hints at retaining the guiding wing mechanic from Ghost of Tsushima towards the end of the video.
