Upon the release of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom“, several gamers observed that a beloved character was surprisingly missing, a situation potentially addressed in the upcoming title, “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment“. Although this figure played a significant role in “Breath of the Wild“, providing greetings at various stages during the player’s journey, they were conspicuously absent throughout the sequel. Given that no additional content is planned for “Tears of the Kingdom”, “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment” could be an excellent platform for this character to reappear.
Although past “Hyrule Warriors” games were considered non-canonical spin-offs, “Age of Imprisonment” will be a canonical addition to the series. The narrative unfolds as we delve into events depicted in “Tears of the Kingdom,” focusing on Zelda’s journey through time back to the origins of Hyrule’s history. A character absent from “Tears of the Kingdom” might also reappear in this ancient epoch by employing various means.
How Kass Could Return in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
In the game “Breath of the Wild,” several fresh characters were added to the “Zelda” universe, and one of these newcomers who left a lasting impact on fans was Kass. After he fulfilled his pledge to the Court Poet and finished the Unfinished Song, it appeared that Kass’ story had reached its conclusion. However, some players might not have heard his distant tunes in “Tears of the Kingdom.” With his whereabouts a mystery, the question of what happened to Kass remains unanswered, but this enigma may be solved by the upcoming game “Age of Imprisonment.
MAJOR SPOILERS for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ahead.
In essence, it’s plausible that character Kass could have journeyed back to Hyrule’s inception, an era players have glimpsed in ‘Tears of the Kingdom’ and will delve deeper into in ‘Age of Imprisonment’. However, it seems doubtful that he would be able to employ the Secret Stone of Time, similar to Zelda, for time travel. Yet, within the ‘Legend of Zelda’ series, various techniques for time travel exist, one of which Kass is well-versed in: utilizing music.
Kass’ Potential Link to the Song of Time
In his quest for the Ancient Songs, Kass might have stumbled upon the Song of Time or the Melody of Ages. These songs are typically associated with specific musical instruments, but as demonstrated by Majora’s Mask, this isn’t always a requirement. Some masks in Majora’s Mask alter Link’s instrument, suggesting that the Song of Time may not exclusively rely on the Ocarina of Time. This opens up the possibility that Kass could possess time-traveling abilities using his concertina, which could allow him to travel back in Hyrule’s history and join forces with Zelda during the Imprisoning War.
As a dedicated fan, I find it intriguing how Kass’s dialogue at the end of the The Champions’ Ballad DLC for Breath of the Wild could potentially support an interesting theory. Kass refers to the Court Poet’s advice about composing songs that whisk listeners away to specific moments in history. If Kass were to uncover and perform the Song of Time, this transportation could be tangible, transporting him back to the era of the Imprisoning War. The Zelda series is rich with song-related enigmas and time paradoxes, so it’s not impossible that Kass could be the original composer of the Song of Time. The Court Poet emphasized that songs composed by Kass himself should have this effect, which could hint that this song is his own creation.
Kass Would Be a Fitting Playable Warrior
Among the fresh characters introduced in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Kass is particularly cherished by fans. Ever since the unveiling of the Expansion Pass for Age of Calamity, the community has been eagerly anticipating Kass’ inclusion in a Hyrule Warriors game. With Age of Imprisonment on the horizon, there may be a chance to fulfill these long-standing fan wishes.
In the game “Age of Imprisonment“, some might find it surprising that Kass is playable, but the “Hyrule Warriors” series has a history of including unusual characters. Even in “Age of Calamity“, Hestu, the Korok who uses maracas from “Breath of the Wild“, was made playable, showing that characters with unique instruments aren’t off-limits. Since Kass is absent from “Tears of the Kingdom“, he could take over Hestu’s role as a musical combatant without disrupting the established storyline.
Apart from those characters previously disclosed as part of the storyline for “Age of Imprisonment“, it’s highly likely that the playable roster will include additional characters from “Tears of the Kingdom“. Introducing Kass would provide a refreshing change, given his musical talents, and serve as a nod to “Breath of the Wild” while also shining a spotlight on a character who was not featured in the last game in the series.
In light of Kass’ conspicuous absence in “Tears of the Kingdom,” fans are eager for answers about his destiny. Including him in “Age of Imprisonment” could be a smart move, as it would continue his story without disrupting the sense of completion from his adventure in “Breath of the Wild.” This new journey for Kass would involve him accidentally traversing through time, offering an exciting fresh chapter for the character. This expansion would provide reassurance to fans who are curious about Kass’ future and allow them to witness the Rito bard in a more dynamic role. Additionally, if Kass were equipped with potential time-travel abilities, he might be able to revisit his teacher to perform The Champion’s Ballad – the final version of the Unfinished Song – thereby providing closure for that storyline.
