Summary
- Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 brings graphical and framerate settings identical to the game’s Series X version, albeit with slightly more frequent resolution drops.
- The PS5 Pro port of Forza Horizon 5 features enhanced visual settings and ray-traced self-reflections, making it the best console version of the game.
- There are minor issues like crashes in certain scenarios on PS5 Pro and large save file sizes, but overall, Forza Horizon 5 appears well-optimized for PlayStation consoles.
The highly anticipated “Forza Horizon 5” is almost here, ready to debut on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. A recent performance analysis suggests that PlayStation enthusiasts eagerly waiting for this critically-acclaimed Xbox exclusive have much to look forward to. Interestingly, the PS5 Pro version of the game is being praised as the optimal way to experience “Forza Horizon 5” across all consoles.
Debuting on Xbox Series X/S and PC in November 2021, the highly acclaimed racing game Forza Horizon 5, is celebrated for its visually stunning landscapes and abundance of content.
Digital Foundry has conducted an analysis of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro versions of Forza Horizon 5, discovering that the port maintains the fundamental visuals and features found in the Series X version. There are two primary graphical settings: a 60fps performance setting and a 30fps quality setting. On standard PlayStation 5, the graphics of Forza Horizon 5 closely match those on the Series X, with similar foliage, terrain, and lighting. The resolution stays at 4K on PS5 in most instances, but there are more frequent dips to 1872p during dynamic resolution scaling compared to the Series X, and both modes offer smooth and consistent frame rates. However, it’s on the PlayStation 5 Pro where the game truly shines, offering an even more impressive experience.
Forza Horizon 5 Offers the Best Console Gameplay Experience on PS5 Pro
In the enhanced version of the PS5 Pro, its powerful hardware significantly boosts the graphics in Forza Horizon 5’s performance mode. This results in more detailed vegetation, crisper textures, and extended draw distances, almost matching the vanilla PS5’s quality mode, all without compromising the smooth 60fps gameplay. On the PS5 Pro in quality mode, players of Forza Horizon 5 will enjoy an exclusive feature: ray-traced self-reflections on their cars during gameplay, a feature not available on any other console version except for photo mode or showroom. However, Digital Foundry pointed out a few minor issues with the PlayStation port of Forza Horizon 5, including a crash when activating photo mode during races in quality mode on the PS5 Pro, and unusually large save file sizes (over 2GB).
Regarding the release of Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PS5 Pro, slated for April 29, it appears that the game’s porting has been skillfully handled, offering visuals that are as stunning, if not more so, as on other platforms. Despite a few minor imperfections, it’s shaping up to be quite impressive. With its anticipated launch on PS5, Forza Horizon 5 could potentially emerge as Microsoft’s top-selling title on this platform, given its previous success on Xbox and PC.
