Delving into this captivating series, I’ve found myself unraveling a labyrinth of secrets, each one more intriguing than the last. One enigma that truly grips me is the connection between the Cartenon Temple and the origin of our protagonist’s formidable powers. As an ardent fan, I can’t wait to see how this mystery unfolds!
Sung Jinwoo’s Adventure Started In The Cartenon Temple

Generally recognized as the Double Dungeon, Cartenon Temple is a significant location within the world of Solo Leveling. It’s where the protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, was selected by the System to become the game’s Player. Many fans recall the near-death experience that Jinwoo had there, but miraculously managed to live through it. The Cartenon Temple made its debut in the first season of Solo Leveling, yet it wasn’t discussed much in subsequent seasons until the very end.
At the end of season 2, Sung Jinwoo reached level 100 and was given a key as his reward. The description stated that this key would grant him entry into the mysterious Cartenon Temple. As the season concluded at that point, viewers who only watch the anime missed out on discovering what hidden truths lay within the temple.
The Cartenon Temple’s Secrets Explained

I, an onlooker, followed Sung Jinwoo’s journey as he made his way to the mystical Cartenon Temple within the labyrinthine Double Dungeon. Instead of charging in impetuously, our protagonist took his time, accomplishing other tasks prior to arriving at this significant location. Upon entering the hallowed grounds of the temple, Sung Jinwoo encountered Kandiaru, a master architect who crafted the very System we see today. It was revealed that Kandiaru had formed an alliance with the Shadow Monarch in search of a suitable vessel for his revival. After the catastrophic events that unfolded within Cartenon Temple, Sung Jinwoo found himself chosen to become the Player.
Upon stepping into Cartenon Temple this time around, Sung Jinwoo encountered statues that had once attempted to take his life during his initial visit. Yet, these adversaries posed no challenge for him. Not even the Statue of God could inflict substantial harm on Jinwoo. Once he had defeated the statues, the Architect emerged and proposed a deal: He would disclose the truth about the temple incident if Jinwoo could defeat him in combat, but there was a condition. Jinwoo had to vanquish the Architect within ten minutes, or else the System would endanger his life.
Sung Jinwoo Had To Beat The Architect
From the very start, the Architect held an overwhelming advantage in the fight, making it seem virtually impossible for Jinwoo to emerge victorious. However, our hero didn’t give up and managed to turn the tables on the battlefield. With less than 2 minutes left, he defeated the Architect. Later, the Architect enchanted Jinwoo into a trance, waiting for the Shadow Monarch to reappear. In the meantime, Choi Jong-in, Cha Hae-in, and Woo Jin-Chul made their way to the Cartenon Temple, surprising Kandiaru. As a result, he chose to offer them as sacrifices. He instructed the statues to attack and eliminate the Hunters, but it soon became apparent that the Hunters had no hope of defeating the statues. Instead, they focused on reviving Jinwoo, but their efforts were in vain.
Sung Jinwoo Rescued Everyone Again
- Jinwoo gained the Black Heart
- He also learned about Rulers and Monarchs
It seemed inevitable that the Hunters were doomed, but fortunately, Sung Jinwoo regained consciousness and rescued them. Kandiaru was shocked to discover that Jinwoo had claimed the Black Heart of the Shadow Monarch and managed to preserve his identity. Eventually, The Architect came to understand that they had been deceived by the Shadow Monarch.
Despite having limited energy left, Kandiaru instructed his statues to attack humans as he attempted to take control of the System manually. However, he found that the Shadow Monarch had blocked his access to the System. Frustrated but powerless, Kandiaru could only watch as Jinwoo destroyed his physical form. As he lay there, Kandiaru shared a prophecy with the hero. Yet, Jinwoo remained unfazed by this revelation and continued battling the remaining statues.
Visiting the Cartenon Temple by himself proved crucial for Jinwoo, as it enabled him to acquire a fresh power and deepen his knowledge about the Monarchs and Rulers. Unfortunately, he couldn’t expect direct answers from the Architect, but he won’t be disheartened by what he gained instead.
