They’re back and here to stay!
As a devoted gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that PlayStation is responding to our collective voices! They’re planning to revive some beloved classic themes for the PS5, making a comeback along with enhanced “audio focus” settings to personalize your sound experience. This exciting evolution of updates begins tomorrow!
The updates were recently unveiled through a blog post on PlayStation, penned by the Vice President of Product Management, Shuzo Kikuchi.
Starting soon, classic PS5 themes from PlayStation’s 30th anniversary will be available for permanent use as your console’s “look,” enabling you to showcase your favorite era or generation of gaming systems at any time.
Besides featuring the well-known graphics of their specific systems, they additionally adjust the audio cues on the main menu to create an emotional impact.
You’ll find the freshly added “Appearance” section tucked away under System Settings. It offers a variety of styles for you to pick from.

- PlayStation 2
- PlayStation 3
- PlayStation 4

In addition to this, if you’ve struggled with adjusting your headset settings correctly, the latest Audio Focus feature provides a more refined level of sound control, aiming to amplify your gaming experience by offering a greater sense of immersion.
Watch the demonstration video below:
How to use Audio Focus?

To enable audio focus, go to [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus].
Here are the options you can choose from. Each option comes with three different intensities – Weak, Medium, and Strong – to cater to your specific needs.
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
- Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
- Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic noises.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.
The adjustments for left and right channels can be found in the same menu too. However, remember that these settings apply only to headphones connected either via USB or an analog jack, and have no impact on TV speakers or soundbars.
As a dedicated fan, I must say, it’s a delightful shock to see the fresh updates rolling in from PlayStation! More customization options can never be too much, especially when it comes to revamping our user interface with classic themes or boosting audio quality. The PS5 could always use more of that personal touch!
Apart from the freshly introduced topics in the PS5’s Welcome Hub, there are now dynamic backgrounds showcasing Ghost of Yotei, Demon’s Souls, God of War, among others.

Fans continue to wish for the revival of PS4 themes on the PS5, but given the distinctive layout of the PS5’s user interface, it appears rather improbable. Transferring numerous legacy themes to the new system might demand an excessive amount of work, and it seems that Sony is satisfied with limiting the wallpapers associated with the Welcome Hub for the time being.
Although we’re not yet at the same level of personalization experienced in earlier console generations, these updates represent a substantial advancement, and it’s encouraging to witness Sony consistently rolling out personalization enhancements, even if they are minor ones.
It’s quite possible that as the community’s revived enthusiasm for themes continues, an array of distinctive customization choices could be unveiled in the time to come.
