Lost Skies Dev Reveals World’s Adrift Connection

One key creator behind the development of “Lost Skies” has shared insights into how this upcoming game connects to “Worlds Adrift” and the valuable lessons Bossa Studios took away from their previous significant project. “Lost Skies” is an adventure that combines survival and exploration, taking place in a realm where players can traverse floating islands to gather resources necessary for constructing expanding skyships. During Steam Next Fest in February, a demo of the game was launched, while prior to this, players could download the free-to-play “Island Creator” and generate their personal tropical landscapes to explore.

Lost Skies bears resemblance to Worlds Adrift, the MMO game launched by Bossa Studios in 2017. Like its predecessor, players can traverse floating islands and create personalized airships to engage in PvP combat. Although Worlds Adrift garnered critical acclaim and was nominated for both “Creativity” and “Heritage” awards at the Independent Game Developers’ Association Awards in 2018, it sadly ceased operations approximately a year later.

Game Rant had a chat with Luke Williams, the Lead Designer at Bossa Games, prior to the Early Access Steam release of ‘Lost Skies’, scheduled for April 18. In this conversation, they discussed the relationship between ‘Lost Skies’ and ‘Worlds Adrift’. According to Williams, both games share similarities in their gameplay and overarching themes, with a strong focus on wonder and exploration. He emphasized that the ability for players to construct their own skyships and traverse an open world, either solo or with companions, has always been central to these games. In essence, he stated that “we knew the core exploration mechanic was captivating, and a significant aspect of ‘Lost Skies’ is expanding on this foundation.

Lost Skies and World’s Adrift Share A Narrative and Sense of Exploration

As a gamer myself, I can tell you that the world of Lost Skies and Worlds Adrift intertwine in an intriguing way. While Worlds Adrift was set before a cataclysmic event, Lost Skies unfolds after this devastating occurrence that reshaped the world we knew. In Lost Skies, I’ll join other players in uncovering the secrets of what led to this calamity by exploring the floating islands of Lost Skies. This narrative structure is a result of the game’s cooperative PvE format.

On the flip side, Worlds Adrift was more about player versus player battles, so the story could be pieced together from scattered notes and fragments. But in Lost Skies, the tale will be more immersive as we work together to unravel the mystery of what transpired in this post-apocalyptic world.

From a personal perspective, as a devoted fan, I can say that both games are set in the same grand cosmos, but we deliberately diverge from the timeline around the cataclysmic event that brought an end to our familiar world. Since Lost Skies is primarily a cooperative PvE adventure, it provides us with the opportunity to delve deeper into the story and let players piece together the enigma of what befell our world. On the other hand, Worlds Adrift’s narrative can be gleaned from scattered fragments of notes left behind.

Lost Skies” retains its emphasis on physics and includes a grappling hook, along with polished mechanics similar to those found in “Worlds Adrift“.

Excitedly, I’ve jumped right into the thrilling world of Lost Skies now it’s accessible on PC via Steam Early Access! As a devoted player, I can’t wait to see Bossa Studios work tirelessly, collecting our feedback, making improvements, and adding exciting new elements like ship parts and unexplored islands. The developer’s dream is for Lost Skies to fill the void left by Worlds Adrift, offering an immersive experience that emphasizes freedom, discovery, and the ability to craft and share our very own virtual realms with friends online. Can’t wait to see where this adventure takes us!
