As a seasoned gamer who’s navigated the expansive world of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, let me share a tip with fellow travelers embarking on this journey or those diving in with the Remastered version. Don’t toss aside those seemingly ordinary Wrist Irons you acquire during your initial quest – they may prove more valuable than you think!
It’s no secret among RPG enthusiasts, given the vast player base on Steam, that the long-awaited remaster/remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has quietly been released a few days ago. This means fans can once again explore the land of Cyrodil. Since it’s been two decades since the game first came out, many are dusting off old strategies and picking up new tips as they reacquaint themselves with the game.
Discussing topics from early-game creatures that are better not killed, to quest bugs causing an influx of goblins, the remastered Oblivion has sparked much conversation among both veteran fans and newcomers who missed it initially. Yet, before you even set foot outside prison, there’s a key piece of advice worth remembering.
Make Sure To Keep Your Prison Chains In The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered
An Unassuming But Incredibly Important Bit Of Gear
According to Twitter user spaceghost, one useful tip for new or returning players in Oblivion is to retain the prison chains from the game’s tutorial. Although Wrist Irons may appear inconsequential at first as a starting equipment, they are surprisingly beneficial because they are the only wrist item (or gauntlet) that can be enchanted.
If you’re not already aware, enchanting an object gives it a unique ability or enhancement, making it more useful in any situation you might encounter.
If you decide to discard or trade the Wrist Bracelets, you’ll forego the opportunity to imbue them with enchantments, thereby losing out on a potential magical item for your wrist slot. It’s unclear why this is so, but it appears that this limitation is an inherent part of Oblivion, and if you aim for maximum power, it’s something to consider before making your decision.
Some players have noted that the Wrist Irons can be obtained in the Shivering Isles, Vile Lair, and Mehrunes’ Razor, but chances are you won’t start the DLC missions until later in the game. This means it’s more convenient to save the Wrist Irons when you first acquire them during the tutorial instead of trying to find them later on.
