Capcom Teases Resident Evil 9 as Resident Evil 2 Remake Reaches a New Milestone

In the past few years, Capcom has been consistently delivering top-notch work, revamping beloved Resident Evil series originals and producing outstanding new games using their impressive RE Engine. The most recent Resident Evil game, the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4, was released on all contemporary platforms and garnered rave reviews from both fans and critics alike.

2005 marked the transformative moment when the initial Resident Evil 4 shifted the series into an action-oriented, third-person survival horror experience. Ever since then, it’s remained a cherished title among fans.

According to recent updates on Capcom’s Japanese site, it’s been confirmed that as of now, the Resident Evil 4 Remake has surpassed 10 million sales units, making it the fastest Resident Evil series game to achieve this remarkable milestone in its history.

Furthermore, Capcom also shared how many units other recent Resident Evil games have sold:

  • Resident Evil 7 Biohazard: more than 15 million units
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake: more than 15 million units
  • Resident Evil 3 Remake: more than 10 million units
  • Resident Evil Village: more than 11 million units

Furthermore, Capcom posted a brief thank-you message on platform X, acknowledging their appreciation to all fans who contributed to the Resident Evil 4 Remake surpassing 10 million players.

Is Capcom Teasing Resident Evil IX?

Following the release of this video, viewers swiftly spotted horizontal wooden signs at its end emblazoned with the Roman numeral “IX” near the Resident Evil 4 logo. Many believe this could be an overt hint towards the development of Resident Evil 9.

Previously, reliable sources such as Dusk Golem hinted at the potential unveiling of Resident Evil IX this year, suggesting a major overhaul similar to how Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 transformed the series in the past.

As a dedicated fan of the Resident Evil series, it’s clear to me that with the success of past games, we can expect even more remakes and fresh content in the franchise down the line.

Beyond just Resident Evil 9, there’s chatter indicating that the re-creations of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 0 could be underway as well.

Let’s hope that this year Capcom finally unveils their future Resident Evil projects.
