CD Projekt RED Talks About The Challenges of Porting Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2

The anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 release date is set for June 5, and one of the initial games to be unveiled with it is CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077. It’s worth mentioning that Cyberpunk 2077 has a reputation for being a graphically intensive game, which resulted in its rocky debut on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Given the expert consensus that Nintendo Switch 2 is comparable to PS4 in terms of raw processing power, it’s natural for people to ponder whether this next-gen Nintendo console can effectively run Cyberpunk 2077.

In a recent chat with Game File, the engineer from CD Projekt RED, Tim Green, discussed the fact that transferring their game to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be a tough task, and the team is fully cognizant of this hurdle.

A specialized group within CD Projekt RED is indeed working diligently on the Cyberpunk 2077 version for the Switch 2, and they’ve got some assistance from Nintendo team members as well. This collaboration aims to tackle any hurdles or problems that may arise during development.

Despite encountering hurdles during development, as is common in any project, we’ve been mindful when making choices to ensure the game maintains its intended vision. Fortunately, memory constraints haven’t been an issue for us, and the swift speed of data storage has eased some initial streaming difficulties. This flexibility allowed us to concentrate on enhancing other aspects, and we’re incredibly pleased with the final product.

The Physical Cart Will Include The Whole Game

Additionally, Tim Green stated that the updated Cyberpunk 2077 will significantly improve with the mouse-like controls on the Switch 2, as they aim to create an experience that mimics using a computer. Regarding its graphical superiority, Tim Green noted it would be designed for: “a PC-like feel.

At the moment, we aim for a 1080p resolution in TV-quality, TV performance, and handheld quality settings. Additionally, we strive for a 720p resolution in handheld performance mode.”

By breaking down each setting separately and using simpler terms like “TV-quality” instead of “1080p resolution in TV quality mode,” the sentence becomes easier to read and understand.

In portable play, the game continues to employ Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), ensuring top-notch graphics. Moreover, it’s tailored with optimizations such as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology, which not only enhances visual appeal but also guarantees a smooth and fluid gameplay experience.

In simple terms, the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 for Nintendo Switch 2 will be jam-packed with everything additional and the Phantom Liberty extension. Expect its file size to approximately match a 64GB storage capacity.

Furthermore, the full game is found on the physical cartridge itself. However, for those who might prefer different languages, additional language packs can be downloaded separately as they come with only the English pack pre-installed.
