This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final arc.
Summary
- Gojo dies in JJK’s final arc.
- Megumi, Yuji, and Nobara all survive.
- Gege initially planned to kill off 3 main characters.
The popular anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen” has recently concluded, sparking much conversation among fans due to its divisive ending. In such moments, viewers often ponder how the narrative might have unfolded if the creator had chosen a different path.
It’s worth noting that when it comes to the manga “JJK”, the author initially had a different direction in mind. Gege Akutami surprisingly opted for a more satisfying ending than what he originally intended for some key characters at the conclusion of the story, which is quite unsettling.
The Fallen And The Survivors Of JJK’s Final Arc
- Gojo Satoru Died
- Megumi, Yuji, and Nobara All Survived
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, fortune didn’t smile equally on all the major characters. It was evident that the recent arc would put the main characters in peril, and true to form, they found themselves in grave danger. Among them are Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, and Satoru Gojo. To clarify, there were doubts about Nobara’s survival as she had been presumed dead within the storyline, leaving fans wondering about her ultimate fate.
Cheer up boys, let’s see some smiles! — Nobara after she returned
In the conclusion of JJK, she reappeared and played a significant role in handling Ryomen Sukuna, the Curse King. Analogously, Megumi Fushiguro was possessed by Sukuna, leading fans to anticipate Yuji’s rescue mission. Utilizing his abilities to the fullest, Yuji ultimately defeated Sukuna, thereby rescuing Megumi and surviving the final arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, much like Nobara did.
In the climactic chapters of the tale, it was widely speculated that main character Yuji Itadori might meet his demise. Though this scenario seemed plausible, ultimately Yuji overcame all odds and vanquished Sukuna. Had it not been for the assistance of his companions, there’s little doubt he would have perished; however, in the end, he managed to pull through.

Among the primary four characters, it was only Gojo who suffered a fatal outcome. Readers are familiar with how Gojo initially clashed with Sukuna, a conflict where victory seemed imminent for Gojo. However, in the end, Gojo’s vigilance waned, leading to a significant cost that has left an indelible mark on many readers ever since.
How Gege Could’ve Killed Off More Main Characters In His Alternate Ending
Gege’s Other Plans Were To Kill Off 3 Main Characters
Despite only Gojo appearing to perish during the Shinjuku Showdown, fans are aware that there was a strong chance for two more characters to meet their end. Earlier, author Gege had hinted that in his conclusion, either one or four main characters would survive, or three out of the four would be left standing. Given that Gege chose the latter option, it would have been quite surprising if the storyline had ended with Nobara surviving at all.
Haven’t we had enough of Gojo Satoru already? — Gojo to Yuji
It seems highly plausible that only one of Yuji or Megumi would have made it through their final confrontation with Sukuna, given that Yuji sacrificed himself to save Megumi. This heart-wrenching scenario could have been devastating for fans, but fortunately, it didn’t happen in the actual storyline. Nonetheless, the concept of such a selfless act was intriguing to many readers.
At long last, the final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, numbered as JJK 271, was unveiled on September 29, 2024. Readers can immerse themselves in the series through the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump mobile applications.
