LA QUIMERA DELAYED AT THE LAST MINUTE

Summary

  • La Quimera, the sci-fi FPS debut game by rebranded former Metro developer Reburn, was delayed on its launch day.
  • Reburn revealed that La Quimera’s last-minute delay was due to “unforeseen challenges,” including the ongoing Ukraine war.
  • A new launch date for La Quimera has yet to be announced.

The highly anticipated first-person shooter game “La Quimera,” developed by Reburn (formerly Metro), has experienced a last-minute delay in its release. Originally slated to debut on April 25th, the game failed to meet its intended launch window, and as of now, a new release date for this sci-fi FPS has not been provided.

Two months back, I got wind of an exciting newcomer in the gaming world – La Quimera, the inaugural title from Reburn Studios. This team is made up of veterans from the Metro series under the 4A Games Ukraine label. With its futuristic sci-fi setting in a fictional Latin America in 2064, La Quimera quickly grabbed the attention of first-person shooter enthusiasts due to its striking graphics, unique art style, and pulse-pounding gameplay. In fact, Reburn even hosted a closed beta for La Quimera two weeks ago, signaling that this game was gearing up for a seamless debut.

The release day saw an unexpected setback for La Quimera, as the launch has been postponed unexpectedly. Reburn confirmed this delay through a statement issued by CEO Dmytro Lymar, who attributed it mainly to unforeseen difficulties. As their inaugural game as an independent studio, La Quimera might have encountered logistical obstacles during the final production stages. Moreover, Lymar mentioned the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as another factor contributing to complexities in development and distribution. “We are striving to resolve these issues swiftly while also handling the challenges we’re experiencing here in Ukraine,” said Lymar.

La Quimera’s Negative Reviews May Have Contributed to its Last-Minute Delay

There’s no set date announced yet for the release of “La Quimera”, but the developers at Reburn have promised to keep fans updated about their sci-fi FPS via their social media platforms. Interestingly, some reviews for “La Quimera” came out before the delay, and they weren’t particularly positive. Currently, its Metacritic page only has two reviews, both giving the game a score of 4/10. Critics have been unimpressed with several aspects of “La Quimera”, including its short campaign (consisting of three missions that total about five hours), dull storyline, forced dialogue delivery, and numerous bugs.

Based on the less-than-favorable feedback, it’s possible that I decided to postpone the release of La Quimera just before launch. From what I’ve seen, the game could greatly benefit from a bit more cooking time to polish out its technical issues and potentially increase replayability by incorporating additional missions or even a new game mode. However, how the narrative criticisms will be addressed is yet to be determined. Notably, La Quimera‘s story was co-written by Nicolas Winding Refn, who is famous for directing Drive and playing Heartman in Death Stranding.
