Ranking the Strongest Parties in Final Fantasy Games

Summary

  • Final Fantasy parties evolved from basic to diverse, with some members being stronger than others for battle.
  • Final Fantasy 6 showcases a mix of powerful party members – mages, sword users, and even a suplex expert.
  • Final Fantasy games feature strong party members across the series, with diverse abilities like magic, summoning, and weapon prowess.

Final Fantasy has always been known for its robust and varied teams, a staple feature across numerous games in the series. The first game introduced the Four Warriors of Light, who may not have had distinct personalities, but they were valiant heroes fighting for a just cause. As the series progressed, these teams grew increasingly diverse, featuring characters ranging from exuberant ninjas to ravenous monsters with an insatiable appetite for food.

Which Final Fantasy groups boast the greatest strength in their individual games, given combat skills, magical prowess, and strategic acumen? Let’s explore hypothetical scenarios where these teams face off in a life-or-death struggle, assessing their collective power levels. It’s not merely a matter of quantity; therefore, Final Fantasy 6 might not be an outright winner or loser.

Or, to put it another way: Which Final Fantasy parties exhibit the highest overall strength across their respective games when considering weapons mastery, magic aptitude, and tactical finesse? Let’s imagine them engaging in a hypothetical war, analyzing their combat potential, and ranking their combined power levels. It isn’t merely about sheer numbers; thus, Final Fantasy 6 might not automatically emerge as the strongest or weakest contender.

6. Final Fantasy 6

Main Party Members (14): Celes, Cyan, Edgar, Gau, Gogo, Locke, Mog, Relm, Sabin, Setzer, Shadow, Strago, Terra, and Umaro

As a devoted fan, I can confidently say that Final Fantasy 6 undeniably stands out, yet it’s not solely due to the number of party members in its mainline games. While there are some characters who might be more akin to diversions or sacrificial pawns in a genuine combat situation, it’s crucial to remember that each character has their unique roles and contributions.

Characters such as Edgar, Gau, Gogo, Locke, Mog, Relm, Setzer, Strago, and Umaro may not deal significant damage, but they offer distinct skills and abilities that enrich the gameplay experience. They each bring something different to the table, making the strategic composition of your party a fascinating aspect of the game.

From another perspective, Terra possesses immense magical abilities that allow him to metamorphose into a deity, similar to Super Saiyan transformation. Meanwhile, Celes, Cyan, and Shadow exhibit exceptional swordsmanship skills alongside other significant talents. Lastly, Sabin showcases incredible strength even without weapons, as he can effortlessly toss a train over his shoulder.

5. Final Fantasy 9

Main Party Members (8): Amarant, Eiko, Freya, Garnet, Quina, Steiner, Vivi, and Zidane

Final Fantasy 9 harks back to the traditional style of Final Fantasy games, yet the powers wielded by the party are far from outdated. Characters like Eiko and Garnet can employ White Magic for healing purposes, but they’re also Summoners, making them the most potent members due to their ability to summon powerful entities. Vivi, on the other hand, is a skilled magic user who specializes in Black Magic, and he has the unique ability to imbue weapons like Steiner’s with various elements.

Initially, Steiner struggles as a knight, but his swordsmanship significantly improves as he matures. Zidane and Amarant excel at thievery, but lack strength individually. However, Quina is the most questionable member of our team. Yet, all members possess Trance, which grants them extra abilities, similar to Terra’s power in Final Fantasy 6, but with improved potential.

4. Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Main Party Members: Ash, Jack, Jed, Neon, and Sophia

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin stands out as one of the most unconventional titles within the series, serving as a prequel to its initial installment. The protagonist, Jack, exhibits immense power in combat. What sets this game apart is that every character has the ability to switch occupations, but uniquely, Jack can claim all jobs available, ranging from a Ninja to a Summoner.

1) It’s risky to confront Jack by yourself due to his immense powers. One of Jack’s most formidable abilities is transforming adversaries into crystals that he subsequently shatters with sheer hand strength, resembling a fierce beast. However, Ash, Jed, Neon, and Sophia are equally capable foes, whether they harness the magic of a Red Mage or uncover the mysteries of a Monk.

3. Final Fantasy 7

Main Party Members (9): Aerith, Barret, Cait Sith, Cid, Cloud, Red 13, Tifa, Vincent, and Yuffie

Final Fantasy 7 is widely adored within the game series and boasts an unrivaled group of characters led by the iconic figure, Cloud. Known for wielding one of the largest swords in the franchise and possessing genetic augmentations to make him formidable without Materia, Cloud has truly made a name for himself. However, it’s not just Materia that grants power to these characters; recent remakes have demonstrated that they each possess unique innate abilities as well.

Aerith is a healer, Tifa is more of a fighter, Barret’s mechanical arm is really neat, and Yuffie has magical abilities like a ninja. Vincent also uses guns and can transform into different creatures in the original game, but he hasn’t been made playable yet in the remakes. However, he did star in his own spin-off titled “Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7“, where his abilities were enhanced significantly. As for the remakes, neither Cid nor Red 13 and Cait Sith have shown any fighting skills yet, so they might not be as strong or useful in the party.

2. Final Fantasy 10

Main Party Members (7): Auron, Kimahri, Lulu, Rikku, Tidus, Wakka, and Yuna

In many scenarios, most members of Final Fantasy 10’s party have the potential to level a city block. Despite Tidus being the central protagonist, his power levels are comparatively low. Among others, Wakka, Rikku, and Kimahri can also be added to this group of seemingly less powerful heroes when it comes to physical abilities.

As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase it like this:

I’m talking about Auron here, who kicks off the lineup in the tough category. He swings a colossal weapon with an unyielding spirit, risking his life to fulfill his friends’ dreams – talk about a badass act!

Then there’s Lulu, one of the most powerful Black Mages in the series and arguably the quirkiest-dressed.

Lastly, let’s not forget Yuna, a prodigious White Mage and an incredibly potent Summoner. She’s got a whole array of Aeons ready to obey her commands, from Bahamut to Yojimbo. If one falls, another takes its place, making Yuna a formidable force that could bring entire teams from other games to a standstill!

1. Final Fantasy 16

Main Party Members (5): Cidolphus, Clive, Jill, Joshua, and Torgal

In Final Fantasy 16, the group that accompanies Clive, the main character, is relatively small, as players mainly control Clive throughout most of the game. Yet, the companions who stay by his side are among the most powerful in the series. The world where Final Fantasy 16 unfolds features beings known as Dominants, who possess Eikons within them.

In their human forms, dominant characters have the ability to harness the power of their symbols (Eikons); for instance, Clive can control fire due to Ifrit. At maximum capacity, dominants can momentarily transform into their symbols. Players often utilize this with Clive. Jill is the dominant of Shiva, while Cidolphus controls Raiden, neither transforming during battle, but the possibility remains for a ‘Final Fantasy’ style confrontation. Additionally, Joshua, Clive’s brother, can perish and return as the dominant of Phoenix. Lastly, Torgal is an exceptional character.
