Summary
- Glore Valley vanished due to a mine collapse, turning townspeople into Wendigos or other creatures, raising questions of past residents and the area’s origins.
- The fate of Melanie going to Glore Valley remains unknown, with suspicions of individuals being drawn to the town unexpectedly, similar to Silent Hill’s mystery.
- Dr. Hill, a mysterious figure, hints at a potential sequel through TV monitors in the ending, sparking speculation on the true fate of the protagonists.
Until Dawn is essentially a revamped version of the 2015 PS4 game sharing the same name. The narrative unfolds using several recurring themes. The story commences with a woman named Melanie who mysteriously disappears. In an attempt to locate her, Melanie’s sister, Clover, embarks on a journey with four companions, hitting the road together in search of Melanie.
It’s when they encounter a cryptic gas station attendant who directs the group of five towards Glore Valley. In Glore Valley, these five companions find themselves stuck in a recurring sequence of events, unable to break free. Although the ending of Until Dawn offers some resolution, it leaves many queries unresolved or completely unexplained.
Spoilers Ahead for the Until Dawn movie
7. What Really Happened To Glore Valley?
What Wasn’t It Blocked Off?

By examining old newspapers and recovered footage, the protagonists deduce that Glore Valley was a tiny town that mysteriously disappeared from existence following a mine collapse. This event would have been widely publicized when these heroes were young, but they remained oblivious to it. Is this place cursed by the spirits of the deceased, or is there some other mysterious force at play?
In a chilling twist, it’s possible that Glore Valley was once haunted before the entire town population perished, creating an intriguing premise for a horror prequel. It’s odd though, that the concept of the time loop isn’t explored further beyond Dr. Hill informing Clover that she is unique.
6. How Many People Have Gone Missing Post-Collapse?
What Dictates Their Transformations?

In the enigmatic town of Glore Valley, it appears that many residents have transformed into terrifying Wendigos. However, there are a few lucky exceptions. As Nina and I frantically attempt to escape in our vehicle, we catch sight of a colossal monster, reminiscent of a kaiju, relentlessly prowling the forest’s edge. The chilling figure lurking in the shadows is none other than Psycho – a slasher villain whose identity remains unknown in the credits. Meanwhile, poor Clover has fallen under the sinister influence of a witch, causing her to gleefully wreak havoc and take innocent lives.
It appears that there’s no apparent explanation as to why certain individuals transform into Wendigos while others become diverse creatures. Moreover, it remains a mystery whether these other mythical beasts were formerly human beings, and if they were, how numerous people may have been ensnared in Glore Valley prior to Clover and the rest.
5. Why Did Melanie Go To Glore Valley?
It Couldn’t Have Been The Fresh Start That She Wanted

In the movie “Until Dawn,” there’s a quick sequence where Clover experiences a dream-like scenario with her sister Melanie. This dream seemed to echo a real event, though it was a nightmare for Clover. During this scene, Melanie departs from Clover because she yearns for self-discovery rather than being trapped in the past.
If it’s true, then one might wonder how she came to be in Glore Valley. It’s hard to imagine that she intentionally went there to begin a fresh life. Doesn’t it seem like either the town appears mysteriously as people pass by or they have to deliberately drive towards its old location and somehow get stuck? The enigma surrounding Glore Valley is reminiscent of the one found in the Silent Hill series, where the town seems to materialize within the story.
4. Couldn’t They Have Just Waited Around?
Don’t Believe His Lies

In my opinion, the most gruesome and impactful moment in that film unfolds when our five courageous protagonists find themselves trapped inside a bathroom. Engaged in a heated discussion about their predicament, Abel reaches for a drink, then graciously offers water to his companions. Tragically, it’s Abel who goes first, followed swiftly by the rest of our friends.
Clover finds herself at the end, and it is Dr. Hill who approaches her, explaining that delaying action to stay alive isn’t an option, as danger inevitably follows. Is this correct? If Clover had remained in the bathroom without consuming the water, could she have survived if the Psycho did not appear?
3. WHAT Is Dr. Hill?
It’s Definitely Not A Dr. Who Situation

Initially, Dr. Hill appears to have been a psychologist who resided and practiced in Glore Valley both before and after the accident. However, at the movie’s end when Clover confronts him, she deceives him into drinking water, resulting in an explosion. Surprisingly, in the last scene, his whistling is heard, suggesting that he returned.
Is Dr. Hill some sort of spectral, undead being like those found in tales such as Psycho or Wendigo, or does he transcend that category? He appears to be unlike traditional monsters since he maintains his human form. The question becomes less about “who” Dr. Hill is and more about “what kind of entity” Dr. Hill represents.
2. The TV Monitors
Setting Up A Sequel

Typically, horror films conclude with a lone survivor or a few remaining characters, but seldom do all members make it through alive. However, in the game Until Dawn, the entire party manages to flee in Abel’s car, and they even drive off under a sunny sky. The only thing missing is a rainbow to complete the idyllic scene of their escape.
In their struggle, they overcame Dr. Hill and managed to carry on for another day. However, it appears that Dr. Hill isn’t finished with his experiments just yet. In a notable scene reminiscent of whistling, Dr. Hill was observed inside a cabin in a snowy landscape, monitoring various screens. This environment seems to be where the game took place. Now, one may wonder if the Until Dawn film served as a covert prequel to the video game. If there is indeed a sequel, will we see familiar characters like Josh, Sam, and Chris in this snowy cabin? Or does something else entirely transpire here?
1. Did They Actually Escape?
A Different Read On The Ending

Is it truly possible that the group managed to break free from the seemingly endless torment of their deadly ordeal? The outcome appears almost unbelievable, so let me offer another perspective on how the story might have unfolded instead.
As the heroes depart, I find myself left behind, with the narrative swiftly shifting to Dr. Hill’s monitors. Straight away, a snow-covered cabin appears on screen, followed by a red vehicle rolling into view. It’s intriguing; could this be our gaming characters heading to the cabin for a sequel, or is there a more sinister twist? Could it be that Clover and their companions are caught in a time loop, with Abel’s car being the one that just pulled up? The vehicles did share some similarities.
