Summary
- The Boruto series reintroduced the Ten-Tails as a juvenile, shrouded in mystery with unknown origins.
- Jigen’s possession of the Ten-Tails in the Kara Dimension raises questions about its creation and ties to the original beast.
- Kara may have engineered a new Ten-Tails using advanced technology and genetic material from the original God Tree.
It’s fair to conclude that the storyline of Naruto Shippuden was significantly influenced by the enigma surrounding the Ten-Tails, an immense chakra beast whose true nature continues to be elusive even today. The Ten-Tails made its initial appearance during the Fourth Great Ninja War; however, it was swiftly contained following Kaguya’s defeat. Now, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, this formidable entity has reappeared as the main plot device. Although some aspects of the Ten-Tails were developed in Naruto, and to an extent, the backstory of the Ten-Tails in Boruto has been established, the young Ten-Tails depicted in Boruto remains a complete enigma.
Viewers understand that the latest Ten-Tails was under Jigen’s control and resided in a separate dimension managed by Kara. Beyond this, little is known about the Ten-Tails’ background. This leaves many unanswered questions, as the initial belief was that the Ten-Tails originated from Kaguya merging with the God Tree. However, the discovery of another Ten-Tails has led viewers to speculate that there could be various methods for creating a Ten-Tails, a theory that remains shrouded in mystery.
The Concept Of the Ten-Tails
The Ten-Tails Is Tied to the Divine God Tree
First Appearance | Naruto Shippuden, Epiosde 205 “Declaration of War” |
Air Date | March 31, 2011 |
Throughout my observation of the Naruto series, I’ve found that the Ten-Tails remains somewhat elusive in its nature. It first emerged during Shippuden, and its appearance significantly escalated the power scale within the series. Despite this, the beast itself was rather enigmatic, primarily because its origins were never thoroughly detailed. In the Naruto series, it was revealed that the Ten-Tails came to be when Kaguya Otsutsuki merged with the God Tree, thereby giving birth to the Ten-Tails. This suggests that the Ten-Tails is a creature born exclusively from an event where an Otsutsuki clan member fuses with a God Tree.
In contrast to previous beliefs, the Boruto series introduces a new interpretation of the Ten-Tails. Instead of being a destructive entity, it’s now understood as a seed for the God Tree. When planted on a host planet, the God Tree grows, and its fruits are the Chakra Fruits that the Otsutsuki clan seeks. Traditionally, this process involves an Otsutsuki member being sacrificed to the God Tree to produce a Chakra Fruit. However, according to Boruto, even feeding an Otsutsuki to the Ten-Tails can result in a Chakra Fruit.
I was utterly astounded to discover that what we once thought we knew about the Ten-Tails seems to be all wrong! You see, it was widely believed that the Ten-Tails discovered on our planet was a unique entity, given how seldom an Otsutsuki merges with a God Tree. But here comes a mind-blowing twist: another Ten-Tails has surfaced in Boruto’s world! This revelation has ignited a heated discussion within the Naruto fandom, as we grapple with the possibility that the origins of the Ten-Tails could be entirely distinct from what we’ve been told so far. It’s fascinating to delve into these uncharted territories and unravel the mysteries that have remained unexplained in our beloved franchise!
The Juvenile Ten-Tails: Kara’s Secret Weapon
The New Ten-Tails Served as Kara’s Trump Card

First Appearance | Boruto, Episode 202 “The Cult” |
Air Date | June 06, 2021 |
In Boruto, the emergence of a completely fresh form of the Ten-Tails set off a chain of significant events within the series. This mysterious Ten-Tails was concealed in a clandestine realm called the Kara Dimension, which was occasionally visited by Jigen to draw energy from the beast. Jigen’s strategy with the immature Ten-Tails involved waiting for it to develop into an Otsutsuki. Once the Ten-Tails had consumed this form, Jigen would acquire the Divine Chakra Fruit, a move that would eventually enable Isshiki to reclaim his full power and might by consuming the fruit himself.
Although the concept of the adolescent Ten-Tails seems solid, there’s still some ambiguity about its origins and where it initially emerged. Given that only one Ten-Tails was known to exist, the appearance of another similar creature has sparked debate among fans. Some wonder if this is a retcon, while others hope that the Boruto series will provide a clear explanation for its origin.
It’s quite puzzling that we see another Ten-Tails, given that the previous ones were formed when an Otsutsuki merged with a God Tree. In contrast, this young Ten-Tails doesn’t seem to have any connection to an Otsutsuki. This lack of information has sparked many theories among viewers about where this creature originated, and one such theory is that Jigen acquired another Ten-Tails somehow.
The Juvenile Ten-Tails was Engineered by Kara
Kara Could Have Crafted a New Ten-Tails Through Experimentation

A possible theory about Juvenile Ten-Tails’ origin might be connected to Kara’s advanced technology, considering Amado performed experiments on every member of Kara, transforming them into powerful cyborgs with divine abilities. Interestingly, around half of the organization members acquired some form of Ninjutsu, which appears to be an Otsutsuki technique derived from Shibai Otsutsuki’s genetic material.
In the Naruto series, given that Kara had the ability to redesign Shinjutsu by genetically altering every member, it’s reasonable to assume that Jigen might have possessed the expertise to manufacture the Ten-Tails using the original Ten-Tails’ genetic material. It seems probable that Kara obtained the DNA of the Ten-Tails through remnants of the God Tree, enabling them to genetically modify a new, mutated form of the Ten-Tails. However, it’s worth noting that Amado has not mentioned creating the Ten-Tails or its origins in any conversation, which makes this scenario somewhat improbable.
Is this… the fabled Ten-Tails!? To whom you are feeding the Hokage’s son?
Otsutsuki Members Have Multiple Ten-Tails as Seedlings
The Otsutsuki Clan Has a Secret Source for Ten-Tails to Use as Seedlings

Because members of the Otsutsuki clan traverse planets to sow God Trees and gather the Divine Chakra Fruit, it’s plausible they have several seedlings, one of which is the Ten-Tails. Although the original God Tree was a single seedling, it’s possible that Isshiki had another seedling in the form of a juvenile Ten-Tails.
It is possible that Momoshiki’s initial arrival was connected to several Chakra Trees appearing in the distance, signifying numerous seeds were sown on a single world. Had events progressed as planned, Earth would have suffered a similar fate, with multiple Chakra Trees eventually sprouting due to Kaguya and Isshiki. However, Kaguya’s act of betrayal prevented the Otsutsuki pair from planting more Chakra Trees.
Based on the current events in the Boruto series, it’s plausible that the Young Ten-Tails is another seedling Isshiki may have possessed. Instead of planting it on the same world, he might have safeguarded it within the Kara Dimension. The origin of this Ten-Tails remains unclear, but some suspect that members of the Otsutsuki Clan could access multiple seedlings in a different dimension. By utilizing their unique Otsutsuki teleportation abilities, they can instantly travel to this dimension and obtain a seedling to plant on any planet, thus causing a God Tree to grow. Although the Boruto series hasn’t confirmed this source of the Ten-Tails yet, this theory still stands as a possibility given that the Young Ten-Tails has no other known origin.
