The Biggest Hypocrites In Resident Evil

Summary

  • Ricardo Irving claims independence but becomes a pawn for Excella, ending up mutating.
  • Rebecca Chambers planned to arrest a serial killer but teams up with him out of necessity.
  • Frederic Downing is a deceptive businessman who hides his evil deeds behind a caring persona.

In the thrilling universe of Resident Evil, where trust becomes a matter of survival amidst the chaos, hypocrisy can be a dangerous and detestable trait. However, it’s disheartening to see certain characters in this beloved horror franchise embody such duplicity. They often preach their values and ideologies, only to act contrary soon after, revealing themselves as individuals who are not entirely truthful about their motives.

Occasionally, characters who are hypocritical in nature may assume the role of villains, seemingly unconcerned with public opinion. Interestingly, heroes have also been known to fall into this trap, becoming the very thing they once despised, sometimes without even realizing it. This complex transformation can occur for a multitude of reasons, which is why we’re diving deeper today to explore the most significant hypocrites in the Resident Evil universe and uncover the factors that led them to act contrary to their stated principles.

7. Ricardo Irving (Resident Evil 5)

The Timid Grunt Becomes Little More Than A Pawn For Excella, Despite Tying To Act Otherwise

In the gripping world of Resident Evil 5, I, Irving, serve as a somewhat pesky adversary for our heroes Chris and Sheva. Early on, I prove to be a constant nuisance in their quest. While I may come across as a principled businessman who’s always calling the shots, that’s merely a facade. The truth is, my fate isn’t entirely in my own hands.

Throughout brief moments of insight, we come to understand that Irving, in truth, lacks courage when faced with his domineering boss, Excella. Contrary to his assertions, he’s been obeying her orders all along. Given his self-perception as a distinguished and stylish arms dealer, it’s ironic that Irving would ultimately transform into a hideous aquatic monster, serving exactly the role that Excella had planned for him all along.

6. Rebecca Chambers (Resident Evil 0)

Rebecca Was Fully Prepared To Put Billy In Cuffs Before She Met Him

At the start of Resident Evil 0, Rebecca steps onto the train well-informed that a notorious murderer is aboard. Being a part of S.T.A.R.S., she’s committed to apprehending him. However, upon encountering Billy, her plans take an unexpected turn due to the sudden appearance of zombies. Faced with escalating chaos, Rebecca reluctantly disregards her orders and forms an alliance with Billy instead.

Although Rebecca’s action appeared quite hypocritical initially, it eventually proved beneficial as they both found themselves relying on each other to escape not just the train, but also the Umbrella Training Facility and lab teeming with mutated creatures.

5. Frederic Downing (Resident Evil: Degeneration)

Fredric Created A Savior Persona, Despite Being A Black Market Terrorist

In the Resident Evil Degeneration CG film, Frederic Downing is a fresh character introduced. At first glance, he appears to be a benevolent businessman, with Wilpharma Corporation’s vaccine development efforts seemingly aimed at helping those in need the most. However, beneath this facade of altruism, Fredric uses his position to enrich himself, masking his true intentions as an apparently innocent guardian figure while exploiting the company for personal gain.

Wilpharma wasn’t just developing vaccines; they were also producing viruses themselves. However, Fredric was skilled at manipulating words to give the impression that his company prioritized public safety above all else. By the climax of the movie, after being arrested by Leon and Claire, Fredric revealed his true character – cowardly and selfish, as he hid in terror for his self-serving actions.

4. Clive O’Brian (Resident Evil Revelations)

O’Brian Is A Much More Devious Leader Than He’s Letting On

In the BSAA, Clive O’Brian is known as a dependable and trustworthy leader, even to Jill and Parker. He assigns them a perilous mission aboard the Queen Zenobia ship in search of Chris who has been abducted. However, around halfway through Revelations, it’s disclosed that O’Brian himself had deceived his subordinates, using this mission as bait to entice the Veltro terrorists into the open.

In an effort to keep up appearances, O’Brian worked hard to conceal any hints that might give away his true intentions, so as not to arouse Jill, Parker, and the other agents’ suspicions. However, his overzealousness in promising their safety, only to subsequently place them in perilous situations, raises questions about his trustworthiness, given his propensity for deceit.

3. Karl Heisenberg (Resident Evil Village)

The Affection Heisenberg Shows Toward Mother Miranda Is All Smoke And Mirrors

In the game “Resident Evil Village,” Heisenberg is one of Mother Miranda’s four high-ranking figures, but he’s a challenging character to understand due to his complex nature. Despite holding such an esteemed position, Heisenberg behaves submissively when Miranda is around, even going as far as ruthlessly using his unusual magnetic abilities to eliminate anyone who seemingly displeases her.

In secret, Heisenberg has been breeding a horde of mutants with the aim of overthrowing his own superior, Miranda – a woman he harbors intense animosity towards. This information is only unveiled later in the game, but it paints Heisenberg as a significant hypocrite who pretends to protect Miranda while secretly being one of her adversaries.

2. Brian Irons (Resident Evil 2)

Irons, The Head Of The Raccoon City Police Force, Turns Out To Be One Of The Biggest Criminals There Is

In their leadership role at the RPD, Chief Irons should be an exemplary figure that the rest of the police force can admire and emulate. Given his dedication to combating crime and injustice within the city, it’s surprising to learn that this respected officer has been involved in underhanded dealings without anyone’s knowledge. To shield Birkin’s illicit research from exposure, Irons arranged for his officers to be stationed in the sewers, receiving a substantial amount of money as compensation.

In the primary plot of Resident Evil 2, he wouldn’t hesitate to abduct Sherry and even point a gun at Claire, despite still being the chief, whose role is supposed to be about protection, not harm. However, once cowardice overcame him, he abandoned his core principles as a leader, making him one of the most menacing antagonists in Resident Evil 2.

1. Mother Miranda (Resident Evil Village)

Miranda Can Hardly Talk About Good Parenting While Kidnapping Someone Else’s Child

In the narrative of Resident Evil Village, the reasons behind Mother Miranda’s actions, particularly her abduction of Ethan’s daughter Rose, often remain unclear. However, by gathering documents and tuning in to some stories told by the Duke, players will eventually discover that Miranda plans to perform a ritual with the intention of resurrecting her own daughter, who passed away many years ago as a result of the Spanish Flu.

In the climactic battle with Miranda, Ethan finds himself on the receiving end of a lecture about the unwavering love a parent should have for their child. Given her own situation of losing a daughter, she emphasizes that Ethan, above all others, ought to comprehend the agony of having a child taken away. However, delivering this sermon after abducting and coming close to ending Ethan’s daughter’s life makes Miranda appear as a significant hypocrite. This raises questions about her awareness of how far she is willing to go in her quest to reunite with her cherished daughter.
