Summary

  • Far Cry 4 receives a surprise new update on PlayStation 5.
  • Update 1.08 is available to download now, adding 60 FPS support for PlayStation 5 users.
  • Xbox Series X/S owners have been able to play Far Cry 4 at 60 FPS for many years now, thanks to the console’s FPS boost feature.

As a dedicated fan, I was thrilled to learn that Ubisoft has dropped a pleasant surprise for Far Cry 4 on the PlayStation 5! Now, we can enjoy the game at an incredibly smooth 60 frames per second on this console. It’s amazing how Far Cry 4, initially released in 2014 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC, has just become the latest Ubisoft title to receive an unexpected update that boosts the gameplay experience on modern consoles.

Among several well-known series like Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed, and Watch Dogs, Far Cry stands out as one of Ubisoft’s most cherished and successful. It’s not a surprise that Ubisoft is developing new installments for the series, but their support for older games has caught fans off guard. Recently, an update was released for Far Cry 4, which wasn’t expected. Previously, Ubisoft had already implemented a patch to boost performance to 60 FPS in Far Cry New Dawn, a spin-off and sequel to Far Cry 5. Fans have been asking Ubisoft to enhance the frame rate for 60 FPS on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 for many of their older games, and now Far Cry 4 has joined the list as the latest Ubisoft game to receive this upgrade.

Far Cry 4 Receives 60 FPS Patch on PS5

Even though there’s been talk about a possible “Far Cry 7”, Ubisoft appears to be focusing on earlier installments in the series, as a fresh update for “Far Cry 4” has just dropped on PlayStation 5. Labeled Patch 1.08, it can now be downloaded (as confirmed by PlayStation Game Size) and offers 60 FPS support for players using current-generation consoles. Unfortunately, this update isn’t accessible for Xbox Series X/S users yet, but “Far Cry 4” has been supporting 60 FPS on the latest Xbox models since 2021, thanks to Microsoft’s FPS boost feature. Previously, PlayStation 5 players were limited to 30 FPS, but they can now experience the improvement by downloading the latest update.

A few weeks ago, an unintended censorship of nudity took place in Far Cry 4, following the release of a new update on April 3. This eleven-year-old title left fans puzzled when they noticed that the update had apparently deleted all nudity from the game. Shortly after, a representative from Ubisoft acknowledged on Reddit that this was an error. According to Ubisoft, content specifically designed for the Japanese version of Far Cry 4 was accidentally uploaded to the global version of the game on Steam. This mistake has since been rectified, and at present, Ubisoft does not intend to censor Far Cry 4.

Ubisoft unexpectedly boosts the frame rate to 60 FPS in some of its older games like Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Far Cry 5, among others. This feature is also immediately accessible for their newer releases such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which debuted on Steam with achievements already integrated from the start.
