Summary
- Cyberpunk 2077 will support motion controls on the Switch 2.
- Swinging one of the Joy-Con 2 controllers around will be enough to control melee weapons.
- Gyro aiming is still unconfirmed.
It’s been announced that the port of Cyberpunk 2077 for Nintendo Switch will feature motion controls using Joy-Con controllers, as confirmed in a recent developer update. The update also shared some insights into how Cyberpunk 2077 will perform on the upcoming Nintendo console.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited Switch 2 edition of Cyberpunk 2077 is officially on the horizon! This revelation came during Nintendo’s inaugural Direct focused on the Switch successor, held on April 2. The dystopian RPG will be a part of the console’s launch lineup, setting foot in the world alongside the Switch 2 on June 5. Can’t wait to dive back into Night City!
Prior to the release of the port for public trading, CD Projekt Red disclosed a fresh developer diary highlighting essential aspects of the Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 version. Notably, director Adam Badowski disclosed that the game will incorporate motion controls on Nintendo’s upcoming console. Although the extent of this feature remains undetermined, Badowski confirmed that melee weapons such as katanas can be manipulated by waving one of the Joy-Cons. This suggests that gyro aiming could also be a supported function.
Switch 2 Is the Best Way to Play Cyberpunk 2077 on the Go, CDPR Says
In other parts of the video, Charles Tremblay (CDPR’s VP of Technology) mentioned that Cyberpunk 2077 could utilize advanced features of the Switch 2, including its LCD screen with adjustable refresh rate capabilities. It is anticipated that Cyberpunk 2077 will perform much better on the Switch 2 than it did on the previous generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, where it faced numerous technical issues upon release. This viewpoint is further supported by Tremblay’s statement that the Switch 2 will offer an optimal way to enjoy the game while on-the-go.
As an enthusiast, I’m excited to share that for portable gaming, my go-to options for immersing myself in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 are devices like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally X. For those who love versatility and the ability to switch between multiple devices, the upcoming Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 has a fantastic feature – cross-progression! This means that players can seamlessly transfer their saved games across platforms.
In terms of performance on Nintendo’s next console, expect the game to run at around 1080p in docked mode and 720p in handheld mode, with a frame rate of roughly 30–40 frames per second. The Switch 2 version will offer two modes – Performance and Quality – which will allow players to adjust the game’s target frame rate based on their preference.
In a recent chat with Game File, CDPR Engine Programmer Tim Green mentioned that the game Cyberpunk 2077 is estimated to take up approximately 64 GB of space on Nintendo’s upcoming console. Unlike other new Game-Key Cards, the physical edition will be shipped on a standard cartridge instead. This means you can play it right away once inserted into the console without needing an internet connection.
