This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Summary
- Robin and Gaban taking a stand against the Holy Knights was a key moment in Chapter 1147.
- Luffy’s Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika Devil Fruit is powerful, enhancing his abilities significantly.
- Gear 5th is Luffy’s most amazing weapon, incredibly powerful but with a limitation on its duration.
In Chapter 1147 of One Piece, there wasn’t much action, but it was filled with significant moments. The most striking among them was when Robin and Gaban boldly opposed the Holy Knights. It’s evident that Robin and Gaban are preparing to engage in a battle against the outsiders, and it won’t be surprising if others decide to join them as well.
Among all members of the Straw Hat pirate crew, it’s only Luffy who possesses sufficient strength to engage in a battle with one of the Holy Knights without relying on outside assistance. It goes without saying that Luffy showcases an impressive amount of power, yet there remains potential for further growth and development.
Luffy’s Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika Is Arguably The Best Devil Fruit
The Nika Fruit, a mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, was unintentionally consumed by Luffy when Shanks brought it to the village of Foosha. At first, its real nature remained a secret to fans, who knew it as the Gum Gum Fruit. It wasn’t until the storyline in Wano Country that its true identity was disclosed.
This is my peak. —Luffy
The Hito Hito no Mi, or Nika Model, bestows Luffy with the power akin to the Sun God. Not only does this Devil Fruit grant him the powers of Nika, but it also amplifies his physical prowess substantially. This unique combination makes the Devil Fruit an extraordinary tool in his arsenal.
Over time, Luffy has largely mastered this technique. He’s developed numerous gears, each designed for battling opponents of varying skill levels. To date, Luffy has managed to create three gears through training, which are as follows:
1. Gear Second
2. Gear Third
3. Snakeman (Gear Fourth)
- Gear 2nd
- Gear 3rd
- Gear 4th
The three Gears significantly enhance Luffy’s power, but none compare to the strength of Gear 5th. Unlike his first three transformations, Luffy did not create Gear 5th on his own; rather, it was a temporary takeover by the Devil Fruit’s will that brought it about.
Luffy’s Gear 5th Is Ridiculously Overpowered

Even though Luffy hasn’t developed Gear 5th yet, it stands out as his most extraordinary weapon due to its incredible power. In this form, Luffy’s hair, eyebrows, and clothes turn white, accompanied by a white cloud hovering above his head. Gear 5th represents the pinnacle of Luffy’s strength because he is at his utmost freedom. During this state, Luffy employs unusual fighting techniques that some might consider childish. It’s important to mention that Oda aimed for a unique design with Gear 5th, which explains its distinctiveness. Although it may seem exaggerated, Gear 5th is formidable and has so far outmatched every opponent. However, it comes with a significant drawback: Luffy can’t maintain the transformation for extended periods.
How Luffy’s Next Fight Will Help Him Improve Gear 5th

- Killlingham knows how to use Awakening better
- Luffy needs to master Gear 5th soon
Excitedly speaking here, I’m currently in the Underworld of Elbaf, but I won’t be down here for long! Once I make it to the surface above, get ready for a showdown with one of the Holy Knights – it looks like it’ll be Killingham. This fight seems fitting for several reasons. For starters, we both are users of Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruits. Secondly, we’ve both Awakened our Devil Fruits. Although I’m stronger overall, Killingham has mastered his fruit’s control more effectively. Can’t wait to see how this battle unfolds!
Since his arrival in Elbaf, Killingham has remained in his transformed state, showcasing his exceptional abilities, considering the known difficulties of maintaining such a form. Unlike Luffy, who struggles to sustain Gear 5th for long periods, fighting against Killingham could offer valuable insights into overcoming this limitation. As battles often trigger Luffy’s evolution, this encounter with Killingham will be no exception. Once Luffy masters the control of Gear 5th, he is likely to outshine most Yonko, barring Shanks. With the Great War imminent, it is crucial for Luffy to rapidly improve his skills in preparation for the challenge ahead.
