Summary
- Ubisoft’s Year 1 content roadmap for Assassin’s Creed Shadows includes a parkour update, new story quests, and more difficulty settings, among other novelties.
- The first major free update for the game is scheduled to arrive in early May 2025.
- The game’s first paid DLC, Claws of Awaji, is part of the Year 1 roadmap but still waiting for a release date. The expansion will be free for anyone who pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Ubisoft has unveiled the plan for the first year of updates for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” This new timetable guarantees a variety of free content, innovative gameplay elements, and enhancements to the overall user experience. It also offers further insights into the storyline expansion for the initial season of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
On April 20th, exactly one month had passed since the release of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” on both digital and physical shelves. Although Ubisoft hasn’t disclosed official sales figures yet, they previously mentioned that within a week of its launch, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” amassed over 3 million players. Furthermore, the company described it as the second-largest debut in the franchise, trailing only behind “AC Valhalla.
Earlier today, April 30th, as previously mentioned, Ubisoft unveiled the post-launch plan for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”. Kicking off in early May is an update that includes a new story mission titled “The Works of Luis Frois”. This character might ring a bell, as he was a Portuguese Jesuit priest and missionary whose game equivalent was introduced at the start of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”, during Yasuke’s introduction. Ubisoft hinted that this upcoming quest will delve deeper into Luis Frois’ life in Japan. Accompanying this mission will be a Codex update and some enhancements to gameplay quality.
A few weeks down the line, I’m hyped for my favorite game’s first-ever “special collaboration”! Details about the content and collaborator are still under wraps, but Ubisoft has hinted that it’ll drop in late May 2025, coinciding with the release of enhanced Photo Mode features and a parkour update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This update brings back height-gaining back and side ejects, and introduces a new move, the vertical ledge jump, which lets us grab onto lower overhands like awnings from the ground. Characters Yasuke and Naoe will be able to pull off this trick, with more parkour animations and improvements on the way later. I can’t wait!
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Year 1 Content Roadmap
In June 2025, Ubisoft is planning to unveil a new companion for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” along with another story mission. The update will also introduce more challenging settings for both combat and stealth, as well as additional features to enhance gameplay immersion. Furthermore, players will have the option to toggle on a feature that displays headgear during cutscenes.
In the second half of 2025, Ubisoft plans to deliver more free content, including a New Game Plus mode, extra “special collaborations,” Codex updates, additional Animus content, store drops, and new rewards, among other exciting additions. The game’s first paid expansion, titled “Claws of Awaji,”, is included in the one-year plan, although a specific release date has not been set yet. This DLC will offer an adventure featuring Naoe and Yasuke as they explore a new region seeking treasure, continuing immediately after the epilogue of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows“. Pre-ordering the game will grant you access to “Claws of Awaji” for free.
