One Piece Ending Theories: Feast or Fate?

In a 2018 interview with Yomiuri Shimbun, Eiichiro Oda said the following:

Instead of depicting people perishing in battle, I prefer to focus on celebratory feasts that follow. Truthfully, it seems odd to celebrate after someone has passed away. However, these feasts represent my vision of camaraderie for me. In fact, I envision concluding the series with a grand banquet.

The interview with Oda offers a profound perspective on how the narrative of “One Piece” might conclude. In essence, this implies:

1) The storyline will culminate in a joyous resolution for the characters, suggesting a happy ending for “One Piece”.
2) The climax of the series is referred to as a grand celebration or feast, often termed the “massive feast”. This means that any theories fans might devise regarding the conclusion of “One Piece” should focus on events leading up to this final banquet.
3) The enigma surrounding the “One Piece” itself will likely be a central aspect of the story, as it seems the resolution will involve its discovery or use.

With these considerations in mind, here are several possibilities for how the tale of “One Piece” may unfold towards its end.

7. Luffy Couldn’t Find the One Piece

It’s Just Not There

In this first instance, it’s plausible that it’s the most challenging one. After countless hardships and battles, Luffy and the Straw Hat crew have finally arrived at the long-awaited destination. This is where Gol. D. Roger hid his riches. The legendary One Piece is found here. The island known as Laugh Tale.

Despite scouring every corner of the island, they were unable to locate the legendary One Piece. It could be shattered, concealed, or non-existent to begin with. Or perhaps it was all part of the Pirate King’s grand deception, intended to initiate the Golden Age of Pirates. Once they came to terms with this harsh reality, the Straw Hats gathered the pile of riches, named Luffy as the new Pirate King, and then held a grand banquet with their companions and followers to celebrate.

6. The One Piece is an Intangible Object

It’s About the Journey, Not the Destination

In the second situation, though it might not be as difficult as the first, it undeniably ranks highest in terms of aggravation. Following numerous trials and tribulations, Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew reach Laugh Tale at last. However, instead of the anticipated One Piece, all they find is a mountain of treasures. To their surprise, the elusive One Piece isn’t an item but something abstract – a thought, a theory, a philosophical journey.

In the first Kung Fu Panda film, recall the scene where Po unveils the legendary Dragon Scroll to see his own reflection? That’s essentially what One Piece is like. It’s not just about reaching the end, it’s more about the experiences gathered on the way. Perhaps the true One Piece were the relationships they forged during their voyage. Once acknowledging this truth, the Straw Hats lay claim to the trove of riches, proclaim Luffy as the new Pirate King, and then indulge in a grand feast with their comrades and allies.

5. Luffy Destroys the One Piece

The End of the Era of Pirates

The third situation might not be quite as unpleasant as the first two, but it won’t exactly leave us feeling great. After surviving numerous hardships and trials, the Straw Hat pirates finally reach Laugh Tale. In this final island, they encounter towering piles of riches together with the legendary artifact called One Piece.

Upon consulting his crew, Luffy comes to understand that although the One Piece serves as inspiration for numerous individuals, it also fuels piracy which leads to an escalation in global crime and violence. To halt this vicious cycle, Luffy resolves to annihilate the One Piece completely, marking the end of the Pirates’ age. Subsequently, the Straw Hats seize the treasure hoard, proclaim Luffy as the new Pirate King, and celebrate with a grand banquet alongside their companions and followers.

4. Luffy Hides the One Piece

Nobody Can Find It

In the fourth situation, the goal is similar to the third, but it’s achieved with less harm done. Following numerous battles against formidable foes, Luffy and his Straw Hat comrades reach their final destination – the Laugh Tale island. Here, they discover towering piles of riches and the enigmatic artifact called One Piece. Much like in the third scenario, Luffy’s crew recognizes the destructive influence of One Piece on the world. The mere existence of this treasure is sufficient to explain the lawlessness and brutality that pirates are increasingly causing worldwide.

Instead of destroying the valuable artifact, Luffy chose to conceal it instead. Consequently, any pirate crew reaching Laugh Tale won’t find One Piece there. They might deceive others by claiming that One Piece doesn’t exist at all. Thus, only the Straw Hats are aware of the secret location of One Piece. Following this revelation, the Straw Hats claim the treasure mountain, proclaim Luffy as the new Pirate King, and celebrate with a grand feast among friends and followers.

3. Luffy Shows One Piece to the World

The fifth situation marks the beginning of the favorable outcomes. Once they vanquish all obstacles, the Straw Hat Crew finally step foot on the final island, just as predicted by the Pirate King. True to his word, they uncover towering stashes of riches and the grand prize, One Piece. The World Government exploited the Marineford incident by broadcasting Ace’s execution globally, using it as a platform to demonstrate the Marines’ supremacy over the weak pirates.

It’s only fair that once Ace’s younger sibling grasps the legendary One Piece, everyone should witness it too. All we need is a well-tuned Den Den Mushi, and in no time, people from every corner of the sea will get to see Luffy triumphantly displaying the One Piece in his grip. After sharing their victory with the world, the Straw Hat crew claim their mountain of riches, proclaim Luffy as the new Pirate King, and then they throw an extravagant banquet for their companions and followers to celebrate.

2. Luffy Shares One Piece with the World

Humanity’s Greatest Treasure

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the sixth scenario! It bears a striking resemblance to the fifth, yet the Straw Hats don’t stop at just revealing it to the world. No, they push the boundaries further. After decades of navigating the seas, battling formidable foes, and toppling every notable pirate across the vast oceans, the Straw Hats have finally reached Laugh Tale, the very island that the late Pirate King spoke of. Just as Roger foretold before his execution, the One Piece stands resplendent on this island, enveloped by a mountain range of treasures.

Instead of keeping it secluded on an inaccessible island, Luffy opted to distribute these incredibly valuable artifacts across the globe. This move likely signifies significant changes within the World Government, transforming it into a more compassionate entity composed of individuals like Fujitora or Koby who prioritize the well-being of people. Luffy may also invite Vegapunk to study the One Piece, allowing him to disseminate his findings worldwide. Upon bestowing the treasure trove upon trustworthy individuals, the Straw Hats proclaim Luffy as the new Pirate King, celebrate with a grand feast, and share the joy with their friends and followers.

1. Luffy Leaves One Piece Where He Finds It

Just Like the Previous Pirate King

In this final situation, it seems that the most plausible conclusion for this renowned series unfolds. Having toppled the oppressive World Government and vanquishing every pirate who challenges them, Luffy and his Straw Hat crew triumphantly reach their destination, the Laugh Tale. Just as anticipated, the treasure, the world’s secret, and the fabled One Piece are all present.

Luffy doesn’t keep or use the One Piece. Instead, he allows Robin to study it extensively, just like Roger did. After this, the Straw Hats take possession of the treasure trove, proclaim Luffy as the new Pirate King, and celebrate with a grand feast with their friends and supporters. Emulating his predecessor’s actions, Luffy confirms to the world that the One Piece indeed exists and declares he will leave it at the end of the world. This announcement marks the commencement of another golden age for pirates.
