Discussing the highly anticipated sequel to the game credited with creating the looter-shooter genre, Borderlands, after a six-year gap since the last installment, we now have a closer look at what Borderlands 4 has in store for players, thanks to its latest deep dive trailer. The new title boasts several innovative movement technologies that can be utilized both during and outside of battles, enhancing the overall gaming experience. With Borderlands 4 already showing signs of surpassing the high standards set by its predecessor, fans are eagerly awaiting its release. Although the initial reveal left some fans perplexed about the new Vault Hunters, today’s gameplay trailer demonstrates that Gearbox’s series is still packing a powerful punch.
In the trailer for Borderlands 4, the Timekeeper character was not heavily featured, but Gearbox provided more details about Kairos’ backstory. The various playable characters in Borderlands 4 didn’t each receive equal attention, with the video concentrating mainly on two: ex-Tediore soldier Rafa and Siren Vex. Sirens are a significant element of the series, and it’s yet to be determined how Vex will contribute to the overall universe of the games. However, we can already understand her abilities, which appear to be a blend of the best aspects from two popular Vault Hunters in the series.
Borderlands 4: The Siren Vex’s Powers Are Revealed
How BL4’s Siren Compares to Gaige and FL4K
As a dedicated gamer diving into the wild world of Borderlands 3, I can attest that the Vault Hunter roster didn’t expand much with DLCs. However, among the original four, my personal favorites have always been FL4K and Gaige from Borderlands 2. FL4K’s beast-master role was a game-changer for me, offering an exciting twist on the traditional RPG minion-based classes. On the other hand, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Gaige, the Mechromancer, who combined classic minion mechanics with Borderlands’ iconic robots. It seems that a new Vault Hunter, Vex, has been inspired by these two fan favorites. So, if you’re a die-hard fan of either FL4K or Gaige, keep your eyes peeled on Vex!
To date, two out of three ability trees have been unveiled for the Vault Hunter character, Vex, in Borderlands 4. One of these is known as Incarnate, which enhances Vex herself and allows her to develop phase wings for added power. The second tree, named Phase Familiar, introduces a large feline companion called Trouble who assists Vex during gameplay, much like the pets used by FL4K or Deathtrap from Gaige’s arsenal in Borderlands 2.
Borderlands 4 players will be able to pet Trouble.
Additionally, Vex has the ability to alter the type of effect linked with Trouble and its damage output due to her unique characteristic. This allows players to customize builds for Trouble, focusing on maximizing damage, utility, or a combination of both. As of now, many skill trees in Borderlands 4 are still undisclosed. Although the themes for Vex’s Incarnate and Phase Familiar trees are apparent, the specific abilities within these trees remain shrouded in mystery. However, players can also explore Vex’s third, unnamed skill tree, which centers around a minion resembling a dark figure armed with a scythe.
Vex Seems Like The Perfect Mix of BL2’s Gaige and BL3’s FL4K
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but notice the captivating black and purple aura surrounding Vex in Borderlands 4. This hints at her Siren powers possibly leaning more towards the necromancer archetype seen in many RPGs, rather than Gaige ever did, despite their class namesakes. The prospect of blending the entertaining pet-based builds from FL4K with a minion that embodies death itself, thanks to its cape and scythe, makes Borderlands 4’s Siren an exciting character for me. She appears to be offering a promising blend of what was great in both Borderlands 2 and 3. Only the passage of time will reveal just how entertaining and potent Vex’s minion builds will be in the game, but fans who enjoyed either Gaige or FL4K should find a familiar charm in Borderlands 4.
