- Koei Tecmo continues to thrive with upcoming games like Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.
For the fiscal year 2024, Koei Tecmo, the Japanese publisher famed for series such as Dynasty Warriors, Dead or Alive, and Ninja Gaiden, has unveiled an impressive earnings report. In contrast to other significant game publishers in Japan, Koei Tecmo manages to carve out its unique niche within the industry, appealing to action game enthusiasts and fans of the Musou genre.
2025 saw Koei Tecmo burst onto the scene with five games launched within the first three months, starting off strong with “Dynasty Warriors: Origins,” an appealing entry for newcomers to the Musou series. This was followed just a few weeks later by a smaller, roguelike spin-off titled “Warriors: Abyss.” Later in the year, Koei Tecmo made an appearance at Xbox’s Developer Direct event to unveil a surprise remaster of “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black” along with the announcement of “Ninja Gaiden 4,” slated for release later in the year. Furthermore, two lesser-known games, “Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land” and “Venus Vacation Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme,” were also released in March.
Due to numerous game launches, it’s no surprise that Koei Tecmo experienced one of its most profitable fiscal years in a while during their 2024 period. Their financial report indicates a significant jump in earnings, showing an 11.4% increase compared to the previous year. This boost resulted in Koei Tecmo earning approximately 36.63 billion yen, which is roughly equivalent to 250 million US dollars.
Koei Tecmo Enjoys Record Profits in Fiscal Year 2024 Report
It’s important to mention that the financial year for Koei Tecmo started on April 1, 2024. Therefore, a significant portion of the sales for the PlayStation 5-exclusive game, Rise of the Ronin, likely bolstered their profits. Similarly, the success of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, which was not a costly project, contributed to Koei Tecmo’s impressive fiscal earnings in 2024. The remastered version of this game also debuted on Xbox Game Pass without affecting its profitability. The commercial success of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, a new entry point for the series, was also beneficial. Given that Rise of the Ronin was one of only two games released by Koei Tecmo in 2024, it’s plausible that the majority of their sales transpired around the beginning and end of their fiscal year due to a substantial gap between the release of Rise of the Ronin in March 2024 and the influx of new games from Koei Tecmo in January 2025.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the future offerings from Koei Tecmo! The “Year of the Ninja” looks promising with upcoming releases such as “Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound,” a thrilling 2D action game from the minds behind “Blasphemous.” Not to be outshone, “Ninja Gaiden 4” is also slated for this year. And if that wasn’t enough, they’re aiming for a 2026 release of “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment” on the Nintendo Switch 2. With their impressive lineup and promising future projects, Koei Tecmo is definitely in a strong position right now!
