Over almost two decades, the Assassin’s Creed series has introduced numerous characters that have left a lasting impression on fans, shaping their status as gaming icons. Although some characters took time for players to appreciate, others were loved immediately, enriching the diverse cast of historical and global heroes and villains.
Although Assassin’s Creed is widely appreciated, it’s important to note that not all characters within the series have been popular among players. This analysis focuses on six particularly disliked characters from the franchise, evaluating them based on the intensity of player disapproval. Each character has its own unique reasons for being disfavored, but some are more tolerated than others, and a few might even be seen as potentially redeemable.
6. Haytham Kenway (Assassin’s Creed 3)
The “Best” Templar
From a die-hard Assassin’s Creed fan’s perspective, Haytham Kenway is a complex figure that stirs both admiration and disdain among players. His portrayal of the Templar ideology is spot-on, yet this very trait makes him unpalatable for many. In Assassin’s Creed 3, initially, you find yourself controlling Haytham before transitioning to the main character. This part of the game skillfully humanizes Haytham, making him more appealing. Regrettably, as the story unfolds, this positive impression starts to fade away.
Following a lengthy pursuit of the Templars as Connor, the player encounters multiple unexpected events that make them question their allegiances repeatedly. The assassin aims to forge an alliance with Haytham in pursuit of peace, but this offer is rejected. Haytham is certain that the Templars are plotting to install Charles Lee as president instead. Haytham is a brilliantly crafted character, fiercely devoted to his cause, which makes him intensely dislikable.
5. Alkibiades (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey)
More Of An Annoyance Than An Ally

Alkibiades can be best characterized as a nuisance in the game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. He frequently pesters the player, encouraging them to engage in immoral activities. Apart from that, he doesn’t contribute much to the overall quality of the game. Following the release of Odyssey, many players have taken to social media platforms to express their frustration and annoyance with this overly sexual and bothersome character.
Though the player has the option to decline Alkibiades repeatedly each time he shows up, his persistent harassment is an unyielding pressure that continually bothers the player. Despite the rich tapestry of characters and tales in the Ancient Greek setting, Alkibiades stands out as one of the rare negative non-player character (NPC) encounters in the game.
4. Dag Nithisson (Assassin’s Creed Valhalla)
General Incompetence Meets Pure Stubbornness

In the game “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,” there’s a character named Dag who shares some similarities with Alkibiades in terms of how he’s perceived. His abrasive attitude and confrontational nature make him quite irritating, causing him to be seen as a nuisance or pest throughout the game. Dag frequently challenges Eivor, the main character of “Valhalla,” showing deep-seated resentment towards their leadership, particularly over his own affairs.
Ultimately, Dag confronted Eivor for a fatal duel to determine who would lead their clan. Regrettably, this confrontation resulted in Dag’s demise. Despite his persistent questioning, relentless pestering, and unyielding nature, Eivor granted him a funeral fit for a comrade. In life, Dag persistently defied Eivor’s wishes, opting for death instead of exile, and left many gamers frustrated in the process.
3. Vieri de’ Pazzi (Assassin’s Creed 2)
The King Of Annoying Characters

The final entry on the list is Assassin’s Creed 2‘s Vieri de’ Pazzi, an early adversary of Ezio, who initially serves as a general nuisance due to his constant teasing and instigation, leading to multiple conflicts. However, after Ezio, along with his mother and sister, leaves Florence, Vieri and his men seek not only to antagonize but also to assassinate them.
Vieri de’ Pazzi from Assassin’s Creed 2 was a troublemaker who liked annoying Ezio early in the game. But after Ezio leaves Florence with his family, Vieri and his men start chasing them with murderous intentions.
Throughout the game, Ezio manages to exact his vengeance against the Templars. Meanwhile, Vieri consistently irritates the player with his persistent, loud, and arrogant behavior. Although it’s not difficult to eliminate him, he is a recurring presence in every playthrough of the game. Despite being intensely disliked by many players, Vieri holds little significance in the broader storyline of the franchise.
2. Cesare Borgia (Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood)
Power For Power’s Sake

In the game “Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood,” Cesare Borgia is portrayed as an embodiment of ambition, who went to great lengths to advance himself, even at the expense of his own brother’s life. Utilizing the might of the Templar order, he launched an invasion of Italy, ostensibly with the goal of unifying it under Templar control. However, in reality, all his actions were driven by a single-minded pursuit of personal power. This culminated in him murdering his own father to seize the Apple of Eden, a mythical artifact rumored to possess immense power.
Instead of Haytham Kenway, who is portrayed with a certain degree of admirable devotion towards the Templars, Cesare stands out as an unforgivable figure consumed by greed. He ranks among the most formidable antagonists in Ezio’s narrative, possessing power beyond many other Templars within the series, yet always craving more. The only satisfying resolution to his character is his ultimate downfall at the hands of Ezio.
1. Abbas Sofian (Assassin’s Creed Revelations)
Usurper, Murderer, Betrayer

In our story, it’s Abbas Sofian, previously admired but now widely disliked, who takes on the antagonist role. Originally, he was part of the same brotherhood as Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, learning and growing together. However, when Altaïr killed their former mentor, Abbas harbored resentment towards him. This animosity eventually escalated into a power grab, as Abbas attempted to overthrow Altaïr’s leadership. Unfortunately, under Abbas’s rule, the Assassins Brotherhood fell into a period of corruption, abandoning their core values and principles.
As a devoted fan, I found myself witnessing the downfall of Abbas, who became consumed by paranoia, withdrawing from society and living in fear of Altaïr’s return. His eventual demise at Altaïr’s hand was tinged with a bitter sweetness, stemming from the pain of his betrayal and the tragic loss of Altaïr’s son. The death of Cesare marked the end of his insatiable greed, but the passing of Abbas also signified the closure of a significant chapter in both Altaïr’s life and the franchise. Among all characters in this franchise, Abbas is undoubtedly the most reviled – his actions, which included the cold-blooded murder of his friend’s son and the corruption of an order he had vowed to serve, have left a lasting negative impact.
