It appears that the latest version of Deadlock, Valve’s upcoming blend of shooter and MOBA games, currently undergoing alpha testing, is now available to an even smaller group.
Back in 2024, the much anticipated, yet unofficially known secret of our company, “Deadlock”, began its exclusive alpha testing phase. Since then, it’s been consistently refined and upgraded.
On a recent live broadcast, a well-known Deadlock streamer known as Deathy apparently exposed an incorrect version of the game, revealing a much broader roster than many other gamers can currently access (as reported by Eurogamer).
Though he didn’t keep it open for an extended period, the web’s memory is vast, and snapshots of that incident have been shared on Reddit.
New And Redesigned Characters
Based on screenshots shared on Reddit, it appears that the standard edition of Deadlock offers 30 playable characters. However, a secret build expands this roster to 40 characters, along with some visible changes in the design of the existing characters.
Examining the two lists side by side, you’ll notice that several characters, such as Pocket, Ivy, Dynamo, Abrams, and others, have undergone notable redesigns. Additionally, we have some fresh faces joining the team, including Drifter, Bookworm, Vampirebat, and Swan, who appears to share a similar design with the widely recognized character Paradox.
Looking at how great the game currently is, these upcoming changes aim to enhance it even more, expanding the player roster to a typical size for a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game.
Since its testing phase began, Deadlock has been notoriously prone to leaks. These leaks have been the primary means by which the general public has become aware of the game’s existence. At present, the only avenue for gaining access to the test is through an invitation from one of your Steam friends.
It’s quite challenging to conceal that a game is in existence when many thousands of individuals are actively participating in it.
The ongoing speculation surrounding Half-Life 3 has been further ignited by Deadlock, as a source has suggested that the game was initially intended as a spin-off in the series. Moreover, a recent update on Deadlock seems to hint at the much-anticipated sequel being deep into its development phase.
Just as with the enigmatic nature of Deadlock’s hidden build, I too find myself pondering the same questions – when will these elusive new characters grace the main build? And when will this captivating game be unveiled to the masses for everyone to enjoy?
