Brazil’s Mythology Comes to Life in New Game – You Won’t Believe What Happens!

In Eter Games, the magical adventure titled Matinta, features Gracie, a resolute canine on a mission to restore the enchanted yet blighted land to its initial splendor. Drawing inspiration from the local flora, fauna, and mythology of Brazil, where Eter Games originates, this captivating story unfolds as Gracie progressively rejuvenates each afflicted ecosystem. Showcased at Gamescom LATAM, Matinta breathes life into this vibrant universe. The game is deeply rooted in the diverse real-life biomes of Brazil and various animals that inhabit them, as well as legendary figures such as Matinta herself, a wise and knowledgeable protector who often assumes the form of a bird.

Matinta Players Will Experience Several Brazil-Inspired Biomes

In their journey through the diverse realms of the game ‘Matinta’, players will be accompanied by their four-legged companion Gracie. To bring color back to every region, they must tackle various puzzles. Each environment draws inspiration from authentic locations in Brazil, such as:

1. The Amazon Rainforest
2. The Pantanal Wetlands
3. The Mata Atlântica Forest
4. The Caatinga Desert
5. The Cerrado Savanna
6. The Araucaria Forest
7. The Atlantic Coast
8. The Pampas Grassland
9. The Serra do Mar Mountain Range
10. The Guarani Aquifer

This immersive experience showcases the breathtaking beauty and biodiversity of Brazil!

  • Pampas – The Pampas Plain is a massive area of low grassland that covers the southern part of Brazil and much of Argentina. Due to farming and ranching, many animals native to the Pampas have lost their habitat in recent years.
  • Mata Atlantica – A tropical rainforest that spans Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, the Mata Atlantica has undergone extensive deforestation that threatens many of the animal species living there. Within the Mata Atlantica are several distinct biomes, including broadleaf forest, savanna, shrublands, and grasslands.
  • Pantanal – The Pantanal is a large area of wetland and flooded grassland located within the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is home to over 2000 different types of plants, including many species of aquatic plant, as well as anteaters, caimans, marsh deer, herons, egrets, and more.
  • Cerrado – This tropical savanna is found in central Brazil and includes the Brazilian Highlands. It is home to 150 species of amphibians, nearly 200 species of mammal, and 800 species of bird, including eagles, macaws, toucans, and ibis.
  • Amazon – The Amazon rainforest is the world’s largest tropical rainforest, and covers much of northern Brazil. It is home to several million species of animals, birds, fish, and insects, including piranhas living in the Amazon River, jaguars, poison dart frogs, and the rare pink river dolphin.

In each biome, Matinta leads Gracie through an initial colorless stage. To unlock their healing abilities and bring back vibrancy and life, Gracie must solve a sequence of tasks and riddles. The gameplay in Matinta borrows ideas from other animal-themed games like Stray, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Spirit of the North, and others for inspiration.

The Game’s Story Draws From Brazilian Mythology and Folklore

As a gamer, I’m exploring this game where biomes mirror real-world landscapes but the characters and narrative are steeped in mythology. Each biome houses mythical guardians – legendary creatures drawn from Brazilian folklore that Gracie must harness their powers to heal. There are also hidden artifacts scattered across my adventure, which offer insights into the lore of Matinta, the powers of these mystical guardians, and how our world ended up in its current dulled color scheme.

In this game, the principal figure inspired by mythology is Matinta, who acts as Gracie’s protector throughout her journey. The name Matinta derives from Matinta-Perera, a witch capable of transforming into a bird. In traditional lore, Matinta is often depicted as a cunning and troublesome character, causing disturbances outside homes and demanding food, tobacco, or luxuries in return for tranquility. However, in this context, Matinta is portrayed more as a benevolent figure, offering wisdom to Gracie while still maintaining her original powers of shapeshifting into a bird during their travels together.
