The Pokemon Trading Card Game has revealed its newest expansion titled Black Bolt and White Flare. This twin-pack Pokemon TCG set is scheduled for release in June 2025; however, it may take additional time before it becomes available in the Western regions.
The Pokémon Company frequently releases new collections for its widely-loved Trading Card Game (TCG), with these updates typically coming every few months. Starting from 2025, the company has introduced three expansions for the Pokémon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions, Journey Together, and Destined Rivals. The first two were rolled out between January and March, while Destined Rivals is slated to drop in late May.
Although Destined Rivals hasn’t been introduced globally yet, the Japanese division of TPC has already declared the game’s fourth collection for 2025, named Black Bolt and White Flare. This expansion was unveiled with a scheduled release date of June 6. This news might not be shocking to the most vigilant fans, as there have been multiple leaks about the Pokemon TCG’s Black Bolt and White Flare set, dating back to January 2025.
New Pokemon TCG Set Is Like a Gen 5 Version of Scarlet and Violet 151
This upcoming expansion primarily concentrates on the Unova region, modeled as a Gen 5 rendition of the widely acclaimed Scarlet and Violet 151 deck in the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG). The set will feature all 156 Unova Pokemon, with every one having either an Illustration Rare or Special Illustration Rare version. Besides two booster packs, TPC has additionally unveiled a deluxe pack containing five boosters. Each package within the mini-bundle will include seven cards, but this set guarantees at least one Illustration Rare (or rarer) card. Furthermore, a three-pack bundle with a bonus promo Victini IR card has also been revealed.
In keeping with past practice, TPC has chosen to unveil the new expansion’s cards one by one instead of all at once. So far, they have revealed 21 cards, among which are the evolution lines for the Generation 5 starter Pokemon: Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott. Furthermore, four EX cards have been disclosed; these include Zekrom and Reshiram, which will be showcased on the upcoming expansion’s booster packs, as well as Kyurem EX and Serperior EX.
The eye-catching Tinsel Holofoil paper, known for its prominent horizontal stripes, is set to make a comeback, with Black Bolt and White Flare as the main characters. This style of paper was popular in the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) from the Black & White expansion up until the Legendary Treasures set released at the end of 2013. Each individual booster pack of Black Bolt or White Flare will cost around $10 (¥1,450), while a deluxe five-pack bundle will be available for approximately $18.34 (¥2,640). The Pokemon Company has hinted that this new expansion may be released worldwide in the summer of 2025, although no official announcement has been made as of now.
