Chrono Trigger Remake Debunked As Video Of Event Surfaces

Summary

  • Dragon Quest creator didn’t confirm Chrono Trigger remake, debunking previous reports.
  • There is still hope that Square Enix may be working on a Chrono Trigger remake.
  • Remake makes sense considering success of other Square Enix remakes like Final Fantasy 7.

Yesterday, there were rumors circulating within the gaming community suggesting that Square Enix could be developing a remake of Chrono Trigger.

If the news had you feeling thrilled, it’s no surprise, given that Chrono Trigger is often hailed as one of the greatest role-playing games ever made.

Video Confirms Dragon Quest Creator Didn’t Confirm Anything

Yesterday’s report hinted at Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii accidentally confirming a remake during an event in Naples. However, a recently published video contradicts this, suggesting that Mr. Horii did not make any such statement regarding the remake.

The video clearly indicates that Horri didn’t discuss a Chrono Trigger remake, as you can see in the video linked below:

The situation seems finalized, unfortunately. However, Square Enix might be secretly developing a remake of Chrono Trigger without any official announcement as of now. Maybe they’ll take notice of the response and decide to move forward with it? Fingers crossed!

It’s logical that a Chrono Trigger remake could be successful since both the reboots of Final Fantasy 7 and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake were favorably received by critics and managed to surpass Square Enix’s sales estimates.

If you haven’t heard about Chrono Trigger before, let me fill you in: This role-playing game (RPG) came out in 1995, initially on the SNES (or Super Famicom in Japan). The game was masterminded by a legendary team consisting of Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, and Akira Toriyama. In case you’re wondering, Sakaguchi is renowned for creating the Final Fantasy series, while Horii is famous for developing Dragon Quest. At that time, Enix (the company behind Chrono Trigger) wasn’t under Square’s ownership yet, and both these RPG franchises were incredibly popular in Japan. Akira Toriyama, creator of the iconic Dragon Ball franchise, provided the character designs for Chrono Trigger, making it instantly recognizable thanks to his distinctive spiky-haired characters.

Is it possible that Chrono Trigger will be remade someday? I truly hope so, and I have faith that Square Enix might have noticed the enthusiastic response from gamers, which could potentially move this project forward.
