Black Myth Wukong Physical Sales Did So Well It Helped Stores Throughout The Holidays In 2024

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but share some exciting news about Black Myth: Wukong. Recently, I, as the CEO of PM Studios, had an engaging conversation with our fellow site, TheGamer. You might know us as the physical publishers for this game, which was initially launched digitally on PS5 and PC. In that chat, we discussed the remarkable retail performance of Black Myth: Wukong, a title that’s truly captivating the gaming community!
Despite not disclosing specific sales figures, Yum mentioned that the business is thriving based on his own observations and the feedback from distributors, partners, and retailers, adding that “it’s in great shape.
Yum reported that the strong sales of The Black Myth Wukong significantly assisted many stores, even helping some to stay afloat. This was expressed in numerous calls made around the holiday season following New Year’s, where they thanked Yum for the help and shared that it had saved their business.
In some countries, despite a decline in US physical sales, physical media remains the preferred entertainment choice. Yum, reflecting on this trend, highlighted the impact of physical releases, explaining, “It was extremely popular in certain nations such as Spain and Italy, and I couldn’t understand why. In regions where internet technology is not yet advanced, people are reluctant to download a 100-gigabyte file due to data charges. In these areas, where bandwidth is limited or slow, there’s a strong demand for the physical version of the game.
Contrary to the belief that Black Myth Wukong primarily attracted buyers from China due to its narrative and environment, this seems unlikely. In fact, as revealed by game developer Game Science earlier this year, more than 30% of Black Myth Wukong’s sales were outside China. Although Game Science has not disclosed official sales figures, research firm data indicates that over seven million units were sold in China as far back as February.
On August 20, Black Myth Wukong made its debut as Game Science’s first AAA console title, available on both PS5 and PC. Since its launch, it surpassed numerous other games and set a new standard on Steam.
We don’t have any information yet about whether there will be a sequel or an expansion, but as soon as we find out more details, we’ll make sure to share the news with you.
