The Colosseum offers both valuable experience and financial rewards if you’re ready to face tough battle tests. Achieving the title of Grand Champion involves quite a quest, yet this guide provides some insights into the challenges that await you.

Before diving into the Arena, it would be advantageous to gain levels and gather loot first, but if you’re eager to start, feel free to do so as soon as you exit the sewers.

Inside the grand Imperial City lies the Arena, clearly marked for your convenience. With a swift teleportation spell or step, you can instantly arrive at this spot from any location. Upon your arrival, several engaging possibilities await you within.

What Is The Arena?

The Arena hosts brutal, hand-to-hand combats reminiscent of gladiators, with participants frequently facing off against each other in life-or-death situations.

Upon arriving at the Arena, you have two options: either engage in combat or wager a bet. Placing a bet could potentially earn you some quick cash, however, if you’re seeking a more interactive experience, you might choose to join the battles and climb the rankings instead.

Betting

Speak with the individual stationed near the Arena, and they’ll explain in detail how the betting system operates. You can place wagers on competing participants, following as each round unfolds.

As a daring adventurer, you have the chance to stake 25, 50, or even 100 gold pieces in a game of chance. Should fortune smile upon you, your winnings will double each time, making it an enticing avenue for gathering some early-game coinage if you’re feeling lucky!

Placing bets is like guessing blindly with an equal chance of winning or losing, so try not to overthink it. At its core, betting remains a form of gambling, which means it doesn’t guarantee earnings.

Each round typically spans around three minutes, implying you should be ready to observe as competitors engage in action. Once the dust settles, make your way back to claim your prizes!

Fighting

To engage in combat at the Arena, make your way to the Bloodworks first and have a chat with Owyn. You’ll then be required to select an armor type – it could be light or heavy.

You can collect all the equipment from the Arena and secure both the light and heavy armors stored in the cabinets.

OR

You have the capacity to gather every piece of gear in the Arena, as well as acquire both types of armor, light and heavy, which are kept in the cabinets.

After completing registration and donning your armor, you can converse with Owyn once more. Keep in mind a few guidelines as you prepare to venture into the realm of bloodshed, viscera, and triumph, though.

  • The Arena is only open from 9am to 9pm.
  • You are not allowed to bet on yourself.
  • You must wear the provided armor.
  • You cannot loot weapons or armor from fallen foes.

Despite some of the guidelines being a bit of a downer, don’t let them hinder your progress towards advancement! You’ll receive some valuable rewards for each battle you finish, along with experience points accumulated during each skirmish.

As an enthusiast, I’m ready to delve into the intricacies of these battles and navigate my path up the hierarchy. Initially, the early encounters seem manageable, but soon enough, I’ll find myself in need of additional skill points and improved equipment to continue my journey.

Fighting In The Arena

Contrary to popular belief, it appears that even those with magical abilities could potentially engage in battles within the Arena, as there seems to be no specific rule barring them from doing so.

Keep this crucial point in mind; your adversaries might employ tricks such as restoration spells, especially as you progress from Pit Dog level to Grand Champion.

Here’s a table with all the ranks, their fights, and their payouts:

Rank Matches Payout
Pit Dog Bosmer Pit Dog 50 Gold

In this battle royale, it’s crucial to equip your finest gear and carry an ample supply of healing supplies if you aim for victory. After every bout, feel free to replenish your items or even level up a bit. Rest assured, the Arena will remain open for you to return whenever ready.

At some stage during your journey, you’re likely to encounter an insurmountable challenge if you begin the Arena without reaching approximately level ten first. I personally encountered such a hurdle against the group of three Argonians – let’s be honest, going up against three opponents at once can be quite daunting!

After finishing your battle, you may recuperate at the wash basin located within the Red Room, which is the room adjacent to the combat arena.

Fight Strategies

As a gamer, I can tell you that most fights leading up to reaching the Gladiator rank follow a similar pattern. However, the one exception that stands out is the Bossomer Twins battle. In this fight, it’s crucial to focus on taking down the archer first because she goes down relatively easily compared to her twin.

Upon reaching Gladiator, ensure you’re well-prepared for the fights. You’ll find the market located to your right, where you can confidently splurge a bit with your well-deserved earnings.

Gladiator

Three Argonians

  • Only one of them should have a weapon. Getting rid of them will give you a big advantage.
  • They can disarm you because they’re unarmed.

Kahjiit

  • This one has boosted defense for your first few hits.
  • Power attacks will give you enough damage to get past this defense and chunk their health.

Breton

  • He’ll be using an Elven Longsword, so he’ll be able to chunk you pretty easily.
  • Blocking will minimize damage and provide you with a needed opening to power attack.

Hero

Imperial

  • Uses a Katana and attacks several times in quick succession.
  • Try to avoid his swings until he power attacks. If you block it, you’ll usually stun him.

Altmer

  • A magic user who loves his little fireballs, try to move horizontally to avoid these.
  • His close-range skills are negligible, so once you’re close you should be okay.

Yellow Team Champion

  • Another pretty crazy three on one that can become a four on one.
  • Attack the archer to prevent them from spawning a ghost and making the fight unnecessarily difficult.
  • Let your special companion, Porkchop, do his thing and draw some aggro to make your life easier.

Porkchop is amazing, and you cannot let him die or everyone will be sad. Never let Porkchop down.

How to Become Grand Champion

As a seasoned gamer, if you aim to become top-tier, you’ve got to outplay the elite. Let me tell you, this guy isn’t a walk in the park – he’s quite challenging. However, if you can wrap up his side missions, it will significantly lower the difficulty of our future encounter.

Before engaging Agronak in a life-or-death battle, you have the option to converse with him first. If you choose to do so, he may offer you a side quest called “The Origin of the Gray Prince,” which involves finding his father. Alternatively, if you feel confident enough to defeat him without preparation, you can challenge him directly and forgo the quest, but be aware that this battle could prove worthy of any champion’s skills.

When it suits you to engage in combat, converse with Ysabel to select your title. This name will be used for you throughout Cyrodiil, so make your decision carefully.

As a gamer, I’m pumped about rocking my top-tier swag for the ultimate showdown! Let’s make sure we’re geared up with our finest equipment before this epic battle begins.

Without the Side Quest

In this contest, you might find yourself struggling against a seasoned veteran who’s reached level ten. Since the current champion boasts robust defensive abilities and a considerable health reserve, defeating him could prove to be a lengthy process for you.

Keep moving and watch out, as he might catch you; he could inflict serious harm. Better have some healing supplies on hand, this encounter looks prolonged.

It would be significantly more manageable for you to evade his major assaults and defend against the minor ones, as long as possible. If not, try running and causing damage whenever you can instead.

With the Side Quest

Finishing the side mission is quite straightforward. Just make your way to Crowhaven, situated northwest of Anvil.

Upon arrival, things carry on much like before. Eliminate all adversaries, locate the secure entrance, and beyond lies Lord Lovidicus, the forefather of the Grand Champion, waiting for you.

As a seasoned gamer, let me share a character I recently encountered – he goes by the name of Vampire. Don’t get lured into a false sense of security; he’s indeed a bloodsucker! Be cautious around him or risk joining his undead crew. Thankfully, there’s always an option to reverse the vampiric transformation if you ever find yourself in a pickle.

Locate the desk up on the second level, pick up the journal, then return it to Agronak so he can show you some new combat techniques. This should provide you with long-term benefits before you need to share bad news, making the process a bit easier.

  • +3 to Blade Skill
  • +3 to Block Skill
  • +3 to Athletics Skill

In the final round, Agronak won’t respond with a fight. Instead, he’ll remain stationary, inviting you to inflict punishment on him – a form of recompense in an unusual way.

Now you’re the Grand Champion of the Arena, but the fun doesn’t end there just yet.

What Happens After Becoming Grand Champion

Beyond the prestige and acclaim, you’ll also pocket a generous 1,000 gold pieces and gain an unwanted follower – an elusive elf who insists on tagging along with you… forever. Once you leave Bloodworks, this persistent character will track you down.

Feel free to bring him along on your journey across the lands. He can provide some insightful remarks during our travels. If you no longer need his company, you have the option to ask him to leave or find alternative methods, which might initiate the Dark Brotherhood side quest.

No matter what transpires within the Arena over the next three days, he will be resuscitated outside of it. You’ll have the opportunity to locate him afterwards for a variety of purposes, such as having him accompany you.

Through conversations with Ysabel, you can arrange weekly battles against monsters for coins, providing a potential stream of earnings. Now that you’ve achieved the title of Grand Champion, you have the opportunity to fulfill your promise by delivering the amulet or alternatively focus on increasing your level, whichever suits you best.
